Default How much serious interest is there in a complete ECU replacement?

I have a source that said they would consider it if there was a huge demand for it.

So report here if you are honestly interested in getting one if the results and price are fair.

Once I get a list, i'll send them a reply and see what they think.

The company is reputable with Subaru's and wanted to stick to Subaru's, but like I said, if there is a huge demand, they would seriously consider it.

I'm not sure, i'd have to ask them. I had sent them a reply asking how much demand was needed. Probably won't get a response until tomorrow.

I'm sure the first thing they'll do is get the 2003-2004 ECU's done. (well, "first" as far as producing)

2005 shouldn't be too different though (other than the wideband O2 sensor).

you know what would be really neat is if the user had some sort of control of it. Like if you had a laptop or a USB keychain or whatever you could download new updates to the software. Or maybe there might be new maps available online for different parts or combos of parts to use as a base map.

It would be kinda neat to hook up a laptop and get a sequence of questions like:

fuel octane
altitude
injector size

then a series of yes/no questions
exhaust
hf cats
test pipes
headers
cams
intake

Or if it was just designed to be automatic and give the user the most aggressive settings it can and maintain a predetermined or maybe user specified A/F

just an idea, might be complicated to impliment though

I need the following from all of you.

Year of your 350Z. (if 2005 35th Anniversary, specify if it's a 6MT or 5AT)
How much you expect to pay (be reasonable about this, this was thought to be nearly impossible after all, and to see it come true would be amazing).
Comments/Concerns/Questions.

I agree with everything except that it stay agressive. I would rather tone it down when i didn't need it and hit a preset station to take it up to where it was agressive.
I really like the PC interactive suggestion though.

one problem is the ECU has absolutely no idea when you're going to do your next WOT

the only way it'll figure anything out is by looking at short and long range maps. For most of us, we do normal driving most of the time - so that's what it's going to assume unless you start WOT a lot, then it'll see that the short term log is saying you're WOT a lot and it needs to get more aggressive.

Most performance parts take away gas mileage, this wouldn't be any different.

It would be nice if you had some sort of easy control like pushing a button to get aggressive driving, vs good gas milage. Just to switch between those two settings....

I'd be in if the price could be $800-$1200 depending on functionality. I have an 03' manual.

Further specifying is required.
Laptop capability? User able to adjust settings on their own (from a list of pre-tuned maps, etc.)? Estimated price? What kind of gain could we see? What kind of time frame until this will be ready to sell?

KWIKZ (year?, price expected?, concerns/comments/questions?)
jcn30127 (2004, price expected?, concerns/comments/questions?)
DayBlueZ (2004 5AT, $1,000 , will we be able to control it? or will it control us? will it have memory for different settings?)
zillinois (2003 6MT, $800-1,200 , depending on functionality)

Does this look good so far?

800-900 05 track 6 speed

im guessing this is going to be a pre-programed ECU with an aggressive tune in stages 1 and stage 2 type a thing depending on type of fuel and your mods...

2003 Touring 5AT, $400-500, want ECU automatically adjust to mods as they come (eg. plenum, pop charger, cats, exhaust etc.) without slowly losing power and requiring a reset of the ECU. I don't need any real level of control, but would want to take advantage of non-FI mods.
