Default Do more aggressive camshafts change exhaust tone?

I was just wondering if they change the exhaust tone at all and how in particular. I'm planning on swapping some Tomei cams since i just sent a set of heads to my machinist to be built.

it shouldn't be very lumpy... but you can hear more "pulsing" sounds from the exhaust if you idle high (normally we need to bump the idle higher for those cams)... I have no problem idling with wilder cams than Tomei @ 900rpm or so, so you shouldn't have any problem!

And I reckon the exhaust has gone louder with those cams installed too!

cheers,

richie

Since I installed my nismo's there is a slight lope (not very noticeable at all) to my idle. My exhaust tone has changed also. It has become slightly louder and it has become noticably sharper. Hope this helps.

Richie-

Thats so nice. Stock exhaust? It doesn't sound as bad as I thought. With my exhaust setup it shouldn't be that much louder. By the way, when I saw that tach bounce at 8k I had the hugest smile on my face! That is so sick, you have to have a good time unwinding that on the streets! Damn man, keep up the good work! I love it!

I have Nismo exhaust (centre pipe and muffler), I also run Fujitsubo headers and 3" cats + 3" custom Y-pipe (a lot quieter than Nismo Y-pipe and added some power, just cannot explain why though)...

Yeah... I rev the car to 8K at least twice a day... and the engine sounds so nice above 4500rpm (there isn't much exhaust noise anymore from then onwards), you can hear that from the video...

cheers,

richie

Sounds awesome Richie! I have the Nismo exhaust also and your car sounds similiar but not exactly the same. I really notice the difference in sound at startup and idle. Do you have any videos of you driving your car on the street and hitting 8000 rpm?

I used to have Nismo cams in my car, they aren't too aggresive, but it's true, you will hear a little more "pulsing" in the exhaust. As far as overall sound, it really didn't make a difference before vs after the install. Only at idle a little bit. Now if you go with more aggressive cams, then you'll hear more "pulsing" coming from the exhaust, but the exhaust for the most part will dictate what the car under throttle will sound like.
