alright so quick update, nissan told me to go screw. i fought for a few weeks with nissan of america and they had the same answer. now im pretty much on my own. my question is, what exactly needs to be replaced. should i get a rebuild kit and do pistons, rings, etc. or is is just bearings and rings.. i have a very capable friend with a shop waiting for the go ahead..

Having gone through exactly this and spent 14k I'll ask how does it run and how much oil is it using? If less than 2 quarts per 1k I'd say just put in the oil.

I you are going FI you needed to build it either after you did it and it died or as a pm.

Then I'd risk it and build if/when necessary. I like my build but honestly if I had it to do over I'd just be filling the oil.

My best guess when V2's (version 2) started was when Nissan released the original TSB for long-blocks back in Nov 07, Jan 08 for Infiniti. Although, rumor has it that maybe V2 production started back in mid 07, looking at the original Infiniti TSB which excluded mid 07 and newer built G35's with revup VQ's.

There is no V2 badge on the VQ's. V2 was dubbed on the forums only meaning a second version (so-called fix) from Nissan/Infiniti.

there is a part number for the engine in the tsb - it does not include 'v2' - i think v2 was just the consumer abbreviation for it

^You may have gotten one of the first batches of V2's (rumor has it) from Japan.

No part number stamped on engine, only serial. Mine is located here (red arrow):

I bought an 06 6mt track in march,I am the third owner. It has 58k and after discovering this thread I immediately changed my oil (even thought it was just done) and had 2qts and some change in the motor after 2k!!!Went to the stealership and found that my powertrain warranty expired on 12/31/11. Started the oc test process.

What are some things I can do to get a leg up in this situation and what is the likelihood of getting an eng swap at this point?

I'm sure some of these questions are answered in the thread but this thing is like an effing novel and bounces from subject to subject.

Thanks.

I bought the z from an owner in vancouver So now I'm even more apprehensive as to if it's even worth my time as it's past powertrain warranty and wasn't bought through a dealer. I think I might just be sol and checking my oil every time I drive. I wish I had done more research..I love this damn car though!
