RevUp Oil Consumption TSB and discussion

The rings i can believe simply because the ring was defective to begin with so maybey they can jus tmodify or repleace it with a more strengthened unit. The revup already uses diff pistons from the reg DE i highly doubt there gonna make one off pistons for our engines. I actuallly got called back from NNA and they told me that they will get back to me with a conclusion. So Im waiting that. I would love for nissan to have special motors manufactered for these revup problems i mean alll thats required is a nice crate engine made and tested not to have these issues. Since the issue is stated to happen on a down shift maybey there engine testing inspections didnt catch this becasue testing didnt include long term driver and maintance testing on the revup since its really a limted edtion motor considering its term and usage.
They asked me what i want in terms of resolving this issue and i said a 07 Z or a revup motor that doesnt consume oil lmao. Well see how this turns out.

I really want to dyno this thing before (read if) they replace the engine and then again after. That would give us a good idea as to what Nissan is up to. They could be just placing a new rev-up in it without any change as far as any of us would really know.
I have to believe it is more than just ring changes though considering how long it has taken to get resolution.
yea its really the way this motor behaves when driving a MT. If you notice no autos are having issues. Its a flaw with the way the vacuum is on these revups. The ring can def be the problem but the issue is they cant tell which motors have the issue and which revups dont besides the tranny variations. I mean there are revups with normal comsumption. So im at a loss. My guess bet is new engines complelty that diff in model and are given the okay from nissan not nto have this issue.
New, what is new? Some describe new as anything replaced- newly manufactured, rebuilt, or out of something else. Is there some reliable info that says the "new" pistons and rings are of new design?
I can't resist saying again that this sounds like the tire feathering story we listened to for how long before Nissan released a TSB. Until there's a TSB it's all hearsay.
Following these forums one might suspect this is affecting a large percent of owners, but is it?

i just checked my oil level and it wasnt even on the dipstick (its been around 2300 miles) so i took it in after i called and checked if they were busy and they just filled it up...but i was never told how much i was down even after i asked to be told O_o...then the service guy told me a nissan rep was there the other day and they were told about the new engine youre talking about...but they estimated it being in in a month or two..so if youre gonna wait ten days dbasal...you might as well start arbitration now cuz ten days isnt really that long and i doubt anything will arise.....
also i havent started a lemon or anything since im not as bad as some of you guy(dbasal and bofa) but i do consume a qt to 1.5 qts sadly every other oil check up, so idk if ill get a new engine, but my relatives that work at nissan dealerships said i should be getting a new motor cuz they complained for me to their boss and thats what he suppsedly said after he heard there was a new motor from the nissan rep...
^^^ point of all that is if i do get a new motor, i want to dyno my car too as well as get it checked over (old revup then with replacement) so when i do get a replacement i dotn just get the same oil consuming revup....but dynos are expensive, and the only place i know of near me is GTM...and theyre realy expensive

I have calls out to everyone I know at Nissan to get them to schedule the replacement. I do expect to hear from them what you and bofa have said. Just another delay tactic. Well shall see.

Also, I am just extremely curious if this will fix the problem.
--- Warning! Contradictory statements coming!
1) Nissan is admitting that my vehicle has an excessive oil consumption issue
2) Nissan is NOT admitting there is a flaw in the engine design
3) Nissan is stating that the consumption is due to driving style
4) Nissan is STILL stating that when you downshift, oil is blowing past the rings
5) In Addition, Nissan states that when you get off the throttle, the same thing will happen as when you downshift
6) Nissan has new engines for people with this problem (re-read #3)
7) These new engines have new rings and new pistons (re-read #3)
8) Nissan will give you the extended warranty - 7 / 100,000 along with the engine replacement
9) When asked why my car consumes so much oil and the 05 never leaves the H mark, answer was "Well, the 05 does not have the anniversary engine in it" (re-read #3)
10) Nissan states that the engine should not burn any additional oil during a break-in period.
11) Nissan is not going to be releasing a software fix for this.
So, I wait for them to call to schedule the replacement. They still only get 10 days to get this going, so if they call back and say "Sorry, we lied, engine will not be in until June" I will be proceeding with arbitration.
I did not expect them to say that they had the engines in the US and figured they would say they were still months away from a fix.
The interesting point here is that there is no indication that Nissan is going to do anything for people that do not complain about it.

This is crap, especially #5. How can you not get off the throttle when you need to slow down lol This is a sports car for Gods sake.
I am in finance, a VP at a large company, and I read quite a bit of financial news. Nissan profits are down for 2006, stockholders are not happy as the company's "turnaround" had been looking good for the past few years, altimas, maximas, and muranos selling and bringing the company back. Do any of you read about Goshen and the company bottom line? I think they are wanting this to go away a slow death, and will only replace the "sqeeky wheels" to minimize the costs to the company. Maybe a large class action lawsuit will "encourage" them to do the right thing.
Talked to my service department today. Initial test showed down 2 quarts in 2300 miles. Went back at 950 miles and was a little over 3/4 down. They called NNA this past Monday, the 3/4 down day, and as of today no answer. they expect NNA to be back with them this Monday. I know the head service advisor, have for years, also my company finances a lot of cars for the dealership. They treat me very well and shoot straight with me. It will be interesting to see what NNA tells them. I would hope that if it was due to faulty pistons/rings, new engines with new/better quality replacements would fix the problem. Stopping all downshifting is impossible in a 6 speed, and getting off the throttle is imposible, unless you don't want to ever stop LOL
If they fix my problem I will keep the car and be satisfied, especially with a 7 yr 100,000 mile additionally warranty added, if not, here comes my attorney.

I do not agree that it is driving style. What are we supposed to do? Never slow down or downshift? The problem is though that they can not admit it is a defective engine. In that case it would require a full recall and all rev-ups would have to be replaced. They just can't do that even though it seems to be the case.
I'll see what they say next week assuming they call or I get in touch with them.
I noticed the financial info today. Not too good, but they can at least say they are turning a profit, for now.

I know that this thread is about 2006 models, but there ARE automatics with oil consumption issues.
http://g35driver.com/forums/showthre...ht=consumption
The rev up motors seem to be affected the most, but it still has occurred in earlier year cars.
My 2003 5AT G35 is losing about 1/2 to 3/4 quart per 1000 miles. I followed break in for the first 1200 miles. The car currently has 47000K miles.

Guys,
What are Nissan recommendations for breaking the engine? What oil to use and when to change it?
I have also a Honda accord 2007 and I was told at the dealer that from the factory the have a special oil and it should not be change until the car is 5,000 miles. I was wondering if the same applied to the 350Z.
Thx
Cesar

Not sure if this was addressed in this thread I did not completely all 37 pages, but I did skim through it quickly.
