The best time to check is first thing in the morning before you start the car.

Pull the dipstick out and wipe it clean. Then re-insert it and pull it back out and see where it reads. You can repeat this a few times if you want to be sure.

Does the dealer fill it all the way up to "H" during an oil change? Im reading right between the L and H after 1000 miles...what does this mean?

If you put in 5 qts, it should be around H mark.
that means your engine consumes oil...

Add a 2005 G35 6sp to the blown engine due to massive consumption...replaced under warranty, thank God. Thanks for the post. The information gathered, deffinately helped to build a rock solid case against Infiniti Corp.

You actually blew the motor? Damn.. I was pretty sure I was going to blow mine a few times but I didn't want to delay the lemon law proceedings by having to let them install a new engine under warranty and wait for new testing all over again. I haven't driven it as hard as I normally would since I had engine pinging. BTW, the new engine isn't the solution yet.. you're still in the game.

VA law = 3 times changing the same item equaling a certain % of the car...or something like that..so I figured...get the oil checked every 1,000 miles with is a pain because the dealer is like 45 min away with no traffic...then every 3K miles get a new engine...lol
Eventually they will get sick of me....I have a long way to 7yr..70,000 miles...plus I just racked up 2600 on the 07 G35X loaner..trust me, they will give me a M35X by the before I get tired....lol.

thanks again...funny thing is that I heard funny noises all day and I kept turning down the radio and listening ...I thought I was being paranoid...then with no warning..no smoke..no leakage...the dash looked like St. Nick designed it ..lol...called AAA.

The last I heard was June or July... lol.. but if it's as close as their January 07 estimate I wouldn't get my hopes up.

What pissess me off is that if they dont find some sort of solution these engines are going to completely die once warranty expires and then the 06 revup owners will be screwed!

That's why I encourage all of you to press the lemon law issue. It costs you nothing butvisits to the dealership. You can get attorneys that will do the hard work for free.

Actually with my last two oil changes the dealer overfilled mine by about 1/4 qt, but yes, most other times it would be filled to the H.

Very true. An engine cosuming oil used to be the first sign that it was a good time to start looking for a new car. Now it seems that things are just being brushed aside as "That is normal". What's next? "We are sorry, but since the flames coming out of the engine did not exceed 8 feet in height, that is within spec".

Keep in mind that the rev-up was only in full production for the 06 model year. That was one of the shortest lived engines ever. They must have realized the mistake they made.

FYI...the G 35's dont have an oil low light....I had it 2 quarts low with no engine light....engine blew 1,400 miles after an oil change.

At least you guys have an oil light on the Z!

hey, i read through this entire thread, and remember seeing the answer before, but i cant remember the answer now. When your doing an oil consumption test, are they only going to test it for the first 1000 miles? Or are they going to want to get readings every 1000 miles for that oil change? Because i have a feeling im not going to be burning much oil till the oil gets to about 2000-2500 miles, then the consumption picks up.

They will test every 1000 miles for 3 intervals.
