So if I bring it in 2 more times for the oil consumption, could I lemon it and make them buy it back?

And can somebody explain how they "mark" things, where they know if I touch something?

Default New Engine Update

OK. I drove up here to Charlotte.

Just over 1000 miles and oil loss is negligible (less than 1/4 qt).

Since I have to drive back Sunday, I might have another 1000 miles on it by the end of next week.

Just a quick update........Car was in for consumption test on 2nd motor and a 3rd motor has been ordered (as well as a new tranny). Should go in next week for engine and tranny swap (throwing in a Nismo clutch/flywheel assembly).

If this does not resolve, then its Lemon law time. If problem persists, I may try to extend this out until the 08' come along (if possible).

Default New New engine

Engine from Japan installed finally. Came half a quart low. I think the techs. fill with a quantity of oil instead of checking the dip stick.

That's TWO new 'fix I hope' engines. Keep us posted on the consumption on this one Turbotoy. BTW - do you have your rear splashguards that you want to sell (ala you got a kit). I scratched one of mine - I'm sort of a perfectionist!

Default My update on 2nd consumption test - 1st round results

I FAILED! I burned 1 3/4 quart in about 1300 miles. This got the service crew's attention. Now I'm required to get a compression and leakdown test before any further action. Any comments or advice? I just want this over and a new and functional (read non-oilburner) engine.

About 800 miles since last upate. I will update probably Thursday. I leave for vacation on Friday.

I still have a few things to address with Nissan:

1) I have not heard a word from them since this engine was installed. I am supposed to be getting the extended warranty on the car (up to 100,000 miles and however many years)

2) I want to know exactly what the change is to this engine. Did they revert back to a non-revup to stop the oil consumption (if it is fixed) or what?

3) I need to get this thing on a dyno.

The dyno will be after I return, which is June 25.

Default 06 oil burner

I finished my 700 mile test...it burned less then 1/8 Qt. This is odd...it sucked 2 quarts in the first 3k miles...now i'm up to 1000 miles on the test and its almost burned 1/4 Qt. Let's see where it is when I hit 1k miles.

More to come.

not as bad as some of the others... last I checked I burned 1/2 quart in 3k miles. I noticed that it burns considerably more if you drive it harder. I checked the oil one day it was 1/4 low. That day I ran it hard up to about 130mph twice, checked the oil the day after, and it was 1/2 quart low. Ive been driving normally ever since, and its at the same level. Cant wait for that TSB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1/2 a qt isnt much at all.....the way you drive it might affect the oil consumption, but it also depends on how bad your motor is, ever since i reead that a few months ago i opened up and drove more aggressively to see if it was true, also downshifted more, but there wasnt much of an effect.....and sorry it is highly unlikely there will be atsb, like said before it will mpst likely be case by case....
