RevUp Oil Consumption TSB and discussion
I'll hang around. I wont be on as often but I'll check in every once in a while. I still get 1-2 PMs a week to help people with their consumption questions, so that alone is worth it.
I burned 2 qts in 850 miles. That was after 4 qts in 4900 miles. The car (2006) only has 6500 miles now. Engine is being replaced by the dealer...but will that be the end? Its not looking good from what Im reading.
I don't know...if this doesnt solve it....I will have to consider the Lemon Law and dumping it. It would be a shame too. Ive put so much into it in 6 mos. JP Vizage Body kit, TSW Wheels, Recaro seats, Nismo exhaust, nismo intake, borla headers, Carbon fiber hood. But I don't wanna deal with this!
I bought this car Brand new with 12 Miles from the dealer in October 2006. I had one of the Infiniti Techs do an oil change for me at 1600 miles after I felt it was broken in. During the breakin I was pretty easy on the engine althought I did open it up breifly once or twice. I also had an oil change done at 3700 miles at infiniti per the car's Maint Sched. The Car currently has 6200 miles on it. Well I checked the oil yesterday and to my dismay the oil didn't register on the dip stick within operating limits. It was below the L mark of the hatched section. Droped it at infiniti today. The are going to set it up for some oil consumption test. Looks like I got a bad one.
Here is some more info from later on
Well it didn't turn out to be an entirely terrbile day. Got the car back with a nice free Oil change/car wash and interior cleaning. I have to go back in 1000 miles and they will check the oil again and see how much it ate. I am going to be extra hard on it this time to make sure it drinks as much as it can/wants.
Since I was at the dealers I had my sales guy set me up in an 07 G35 Sedan 6MT for a test drive. It's pretty much everything you read it to be. The car is faster than my coupe based on my feeling. Its obvious there is more tq down low. It also has a delightfully agressive exhaust note. I am not a very pick person and refinement is not my expertise but it is notable that the engine is not as smoothe as the good old VQ35DE. Overall an awesome car.

YESSSSSSSSS Finally I'm getting a free engine. Went for my oil cons. test today. They drained less than 2 quarts of oil. Told me Id be getting a new engine. I told them I wanted to watch everything and they let me chill in the garage while they worked on the car. Didnt want them to sneakely add more oil while I wasnt watching!!!!
Has anyone noticed, their floor on the passenger and driver seat is really hot, on long drives? I drove from SF to LA two weeks ago, and my floor was so hot it felt like it was boiler plate. Is this normal, or is this where Nissan reduced costs by not adding enough insulation.
Finally getting somewhere with Nissan , after the BBB contacted them. The NNA is a joke.

I am NOT happy, put 1000miles on my Z, down just over 1qt. This is after putting in 1qt because it was down that much after a few hundred miles after an oil change. I havent even had this car for a month. Should I bring it into the dealer? What the best course of action? I hate dealing with service people, I'm assuming after reading this thread I be dealing with the same BS as Audi. Not happy ;(

If you've been following this post from almost the beginning - here's the drill:
1) You've got a REV-Up that consuming. You go to the dealer get consumption tests. It fails.
2) You call NNA to try and get resolution. You get, "the fix it's coming 'someday' be patient blah, blah, blah....'. Of course you'll have several 'Regional Reps' to deal with and maybe more than one case number. Also, NNA will not call you back to drag their feet even more!
3) Call BBB and use the AUTOLINE 1-800-955-5100 and start to get the ball really rolling, (ala BOFA, TURBOTOY, RBLOVER69, etc....)
Well step '3' is where I am at this point. I was a loyal 4 time Nissan Buyer. But, I'm starting to get agitated, (they're really starting to lose me). Will update my progress in this idiotic process.

I called a week and a half ago about this extended warranty issue and have not heard back.

I must say that the new engine is holding up so far....headed out right now to check the oil...4pm Monday June 25....will post in a sec with results. This will be the third test on the new engine....first I thought it failed (Dealer said the tech didnt fill it all the way up, hmmm....whatever) so it was low at 3500 miles, the second didnt burn a drop at 4600 miles....just over 5300 now...
ENGINE OIL IS STILL GOOD!
Took it to an autocross event on Sunday too....I think the problem is completely solved....will continue to update the site as needed. Thanks all. BBB is a great move for all of those who complete the 3 oil cons test and still get flak from the NNA or NAA or whatever the abbreviation is...lol.

Here's the run down....
2006.5 6MT
Currently 7,100 miles on it.
Changed oil & filter at 3600 miles..added Mobil 1 5W30
Drove to ZDayZ from Florida and back (drove the snot out of the Dragon!) 1600 miles total
Checked oil last night....3 3/4 quarts low! That's over 1qt per 1000 miles.
The thing that sucks is that I am moving to South Korea in 13 days. Wife doesn't have time for the oil consumption test. But I am taking it to Ellis Autoworkz in Tampa to get a baseline dyno run on a DynoDynamics dyno in shootout mode. This way if they update the ECU with a new VVT map, I can put it back on the dyno in shootout mode and see if I lost any HP.
Here's the one good thing...I live in Florida and we have a great Lemon Law. I forced the issue on Nissan with my 04 Armada when I had front brake issues and they took 3 times to get it right. No problems since (after a front caliper swap, two front caliper brackets, and two rotors in the front along with an ABS computer update).
