Well guys, interesting development. 3rd engine went in and we drove to West Virginia to do some Whitewater. Today, while driving back, Nissan called with an interesting offer. They claim the 3rd motor was a stocker and they missed the coordination of shipping with the new motified version.

They claim they now have the results back and its def rings! Has to do with burn in process. If the vehicle is handled delicately during the initial burn in the rings seat correctly. If not, the problem occurs. The rep explained that this should not be! "Its a sports car and shouldn't need this type of coddling and we regognize that".
So, they are now shipping this modified motor from Japan to my dealership and they will replace yet again. (4th)
They are offering 100k bumper to bumper with roadside assistance. If, for whatever reason this motor does not resolve the issue, they will buy back car or replace with no questions asked!
Can't say no to that. If I begin the lemon law now, I achieve the same outcome so it is worth one final try.

On a different note, stay out of West Virginia. Those bastards stopped me twice for speeding. Speed traps everywhere!

you have to warm- up the engine a little bit. then turn off the engine and wait for about 30min to an hour to do the reading. at least this is how i do it, so that the oil could settle down to get a correct reading.

Thanks for the info. Stay on top of that 100,000 mile warranty thing. I had to cal and call and call until I finally got it. They had nothing about it in their system.

Really concerns me that they screwed up coordination on the issue.

Best to check it before you start the car in the morning.

So i just discovered that my new engine (only 5500 miles old) is burning oil as well - about 6 months ago it was replaced (maybe a little less). Damn oil consumption tests will be the death of me i swear. At this point, i just want my money back . . .

what do you guys think about just building the engine? would this be the best move rather than waiting for nissan to find a fix? yes i would spend lots of money, i know that, compared to free swap but at least i get a more reliable engine and more power. or should i just let them swap the engine till they find a swap. or just go for a lemon law and let them buy back the car an trade it to a 07?

I would say that if your plan was to go FI in the first place, then go ahead and get yourself a built engine.

I would not just get a built engine though for the sake of trying to fix the consumption issue.

I have not seen any facts on people with built engines having any issues, but that is like comparing apples to spaceships.

well down the line, i was planning to do a well built NA machine. this is not to resolve the consumption issue but to just build a well rounded and balance car for daily and at the same time for week end track. but that is way in the future. right now, priority first!!

As for me, I originally called Nissan on 6/27, asking them to advise me as to how they intend to handle my problem (replacement engine now burning oil, at the rate of 3 quarts in 5,000 miles). They told me a Regional Specialist would call me "within 48 hours." After 48 hours went by, I called again on 6/29 and asked for the status. They assured me I'd get a prompt response.

Since then, I got a voicemail from the Regional Specialist (Mark, at x 57904), on 7/2. I have called him back 5 times since then, and no response. Now I'm writing to Nissan and to the BBB. Looks like you guys are right--this seems to be the only route to go.

Default 3000 mile update

Well. It has now been 3000 miles in my own little consumption test. 5000 miles since the engine went in. I am still reading down 1/2 qt. That means no consumption at all in the last 1000 miles.

I will label this acceptable, but will be keeping an eye on it every so often to see if anything changes.

That's great to read.

I haven't noticed any comments from Canadian members so far but wanted to mention that my car has been eating 4 liters per 5000 Kms (4 quarts per 3100 miles) since day one and it's thanks to this forum that I learned I was not the only one facing this issue.

My dealer began a consumption test immediately after my first complaint and has been cooperative all along. After topping off the missing oil 4 times they said they had enough data to justify replacing the engine. This week they spoke to Nissan Canada again who are now acknowledging the problem and saying they expect to have a new hand built engine for me in August.

I'll post again when this is confirmed.

One thing I have noticed, but it is almost impossible to confirm is mpg with this new engine.

I seem to be making 2-3 mpg less with this engine. I have not seen 22 under normal driving conditions, but used to see 24 a lot with the old engine.

I like that name Rev-up V2. We should create a new thread and begin to document what we find out about this engine.
I intend to dyno once I get past some reasonable break in.
I asked and received in writing all statements made by NissanUSA over the phone today.
They seem pretty confident that this V2 will solve this problem.

The rep indicated that they were going to mass produce this new version. Sounds like a recall may be planned!

I need to get over there one of these days now that everything seems to be good. Probably in the next couple of weeks. I just hope I don't break the dyno again.

Same exact thing has happened to me!!! The regional rep called me 2 or 3 times right after I called in the complaint. Since then I have left numerous calls and she never returns my call. The dealership has returned my calls and been very helpful. I am going to see them in person next week and demand action, or I will let NNA know I intend to sue.
