Default Whinning noise at 85mph

In 6th gear at about 85 mph I hear a whinning noise coming from the rear. Is this normal? It almost goes away completely at around 90mph. Im paranoid because I had a rearend on my Ranger lock up on me once.

Change your diff fluid and see if it helps.

a little gear whine, nothing serious. You can hear it pretty well in the Z cause there is not much sound deadening material back there. Mine does it too, but its not a problem I dont think.

Same here. I always hear some whine on my way to work in the morning. Nothing serious.

same here. there was a thread about this, and someone had the rear end replaced by the dealer, and the noise was still there. I guess in his situation the noise was from the tranny. I could swear that its coming from the rear of the car though.

well just maintain your rear-end diff fluid. if you autocross or track frequently or say even drift you should change it whevenver you can, . but if its daily driven with no time about 30k change the fluid. thats advice from some of my friends who track their vehicles.
