Every time i shift from first to second below like 4000rpms the gear change is so loud and its incredibly knocky... am I doing something wrong or is the tranny just loud?

Mine does it too, especially when it's on higher rpm

yeah its annoying to me too...i drove my friends brand new Si...the clutch was like butter, which i loved and quiet as a mouse. felt like i was drivin a Semi after i got back in the Z...would never trade up the power of a Z for the delight of a nicer clutch tho

Most Japanese cars I have drove have really soft clutches and smooth shifting transmissions, except the Z. But what do you expect with a car that has a lot of power/torque?? It needs a tougher trans/clutch so it doesnt fall apart under all that stress. The Z's trans. reminds me of my unlces Z-28, but a little smoother.

When mine started sounding like a jet engine, they yanked it and replaced it under warranty. Just to give you a heads up.
