Well I have a stick-shift 350z 03 and the only thing is on it right now intake system. so I noticed 3 things that are weird about my car oh and btw I bought it 2 weeks ago. any how, when I speed up like around 100-120 MPH the engine starts smell funny. and also when I park the car and keeps it runing I hear a clicking sound goes away and comes back I think from the engine can't really tell. and the last thing I noticed also the clutch.. when the car gets hot the clutch makes like a whistle sound not exactly whistle but kind of a scratch sound... any idea please... I will very appreciate it ...

did the car come with any mods? are the Cats there or test pipes?

the clicking sound, is your air conditioner on, remember it has a habit of turning itself on and makes a click when the compressor engauges.

i don't get the clutch sound reference at all.

I only have an intake system that's all.. everything else is stock... and the Cats is on ... it does the sound with out the A/C on .. I can hear it mostly from the front right tire driver side... ... for the clutch, it's like a scratch sound when I release my foot from the clutch... it's hard to explain

the clicking sound, does it go "Tap tap tap tap" or just a single click followed by a long pause.?

no it's tap tap tap... but it only does it when I park the car I tried to drive like 2-4 MPH and hear it but can't ... also why do u think the engine smell funny when I drive it hard

the tap tap tap is likely valve tap, but, it may be normal, check your oil.

the smell is only at high speed, guessing it's heat related, would you know if it was oil burning smell?

hmmm ... Well I have an appointment with the nissan service and I'll let them check on it .... and yeah it's not an oil burning ... it seriously smells like puke... . I checked on the oil it's fine ... :s

Well I just came back from the Nissan service and they told me that they think the clutch throttle is causing the clicking sound and the squeaking.. and they want to charge me 450 bucks ... is there anyway i can do something to get rid of this problem or anyone in the NW knows a good autoshop can fix it for me less than what nissan is charging me ....?

the smell might be your cat's....usually mine does that too when i beat my car. that smell is normal since you have cat's....alot of new car's have that smell too because its a new exhaust. that noise from the clutch is your throw out bearing....mine does that also.

So is it normal and not gonna hurt the tranny or should I replace it?

Its not really going to hurt the tranny unless it starts failing and you still insist on shifting. Aftermarket clutch kits also make a whining noise (found that out on a supra as well) if you push the clutch in

Now is the sound coming from down around the clutch area or from somewhere under the middle console - it could be the TO bearing in the driveshaft and if thats the case youll need to get that replaced asap. It can lead to a lot of problems later on.

No I'm sure it's from the clutch cuz I hear a lil rattling and when I push on the clutch it goes away also when the car gets hot the squeaking sound comes from the clutch... and I can feel it on the clutch paddle

Could be the pump or pressure plate going bad due to a misalignment and wear. Might want to get that checked out. It sucks going down the road at 60 and the clutch going bad and not being able to shift into any gears.

My car does the same thing..and it just had the tranny rebuilt yesterday by Nissan and got the JWT clutch installed..

Welcome to the 350z. These cars make alot of noise and alot of smell, even when running properly. But thats why they're fun
