Exclamation Sifting into 3rd...

Recently when Ive been messing around in my Z, I've been trying to practice my sifting and get it done so I can bang through em faster.
I've tried double clutching I got that down pretty good, but the something bothers me when I go from second to third "too fast"...my gears grind.
Now some of my buddies say that I m not clutching enough from 2-3, but I have it close to the floor.
My pops says that I need to "tighten" my clutch and I don't think thats the case.
My over paranoid girlfriend thinks I need a new clutch, but what do chicks now about cars.
At first I thought that I wasn't pushing far enough into third, I start to give it a firm shift(but not over do it) and it still happens, even when I double clutch.
At first it was a minor concern, but now its really bothering me cause the last thing I wanna do is ignore it till it gets worse.
My Z is my baby, my girlfriend says I love it more then her. Now I m not admitting or denying that but I wanna fix this problem before something worse happens.
Thanks,
Mike

Are you sure you're not driving a semi?

Edit: Sounds like you're trying to shift too fast and letting the clutch out early. And there's no need in double clutching, which is why I said my first statement.

Try shifting into third, vice sifting. May cure your problem.

Sifting like any sorting/baking process is something best done at a slow and reliable pace. Don't bang through them anyway...

On a more realistic note, we have synchros so you don't have to double clutch, don't waste your time. ESPECIALLY ON UPSHIFTS

Your foot should always be in the floorboard when shifting, never partway up or down. It will cause unnecessary clutch/throwout/etc wear and cause you to grind especially during high RPM shifts. Are you the first owner, how many miles are on it, how hard do you drive it. Try shifing with a deliberate motion instead of "banging through em" your girlfriend could probably have given you that advice (its amazing what girls can relate to cars through sex/life )

Modern-day cars have synchros......... in other words: Don't double-clutch.

Thanks yall for your response, Ill try that out tonight. I do ride her pretty hard...my gf and my Z.

Just glad that this wasn't resolved by replacing my clutch, payments are steep.
Later.

I have a feeling the grinding will go away when you stop double-clutching.
