Default Mobil 1 oil viscosity

I have an 03 z. Auto zone said 10w-30, owner manual states 5w-30 preferred. I live in Texas where its hot and was wondering what other Z owners prefer for Oil viscosity. I also use the extended preformance mobil 1 oil products. The oil states on bottle guranteed for 15k miles. I usually change at around 10-12k depending on how lazy im feeling.

I also buy the extended performance oil filter but it doesnt state how many miles its good for. Anybody have an idea or recommendation on how often to change the oil filter when using Mobil 1 extended performance oil filter?

Thanks.

Neither of those oils are very good for what you pay. In your climate it won't matter at all what the winter weight is, so I'd say just use the 5W-30 as it is a thicker oil than the 10W-30 at temp. Or, if you want the best performing weight for the price XOM charges for M1, then ditch them both for a proven performer in the VQ and grab five bottles of 0W-40.

How would you define problem? The only true way to determin how effective an oil is by having a used oil analysis done. The analysis will show what metals are suspended in the oil which tells you how well the oil is preventing wear of bearings, piston skirts and such.

This subject has a sticky because it has been discussed quite extensivly. You could put in any cheap 30 weight oil and run the engine and say "no problems" when in fact an analysis would show huge jump in iron/aluminum which indicates piston wear.

Of the Mobil 1 varieties 0W40 has shown the best overall protection qualities.

No matter how long the change interval for the oil (any oil), you absolutely, positively, and without question must change the filter. When in doubt, follow the manufacturer's schedule.

The catalog for Mobil 1 oil filter calls for the M-108 filter, however the M-110 also fits and is bigger.

I would argue that, you don't have to change your filter everytime you change the oil. I do and would say you "Should" change it. If you change your oil every 3K miles you could probably do the filter every other BUT if you're faithfully changing oil every 3K miles then obviously the owner cares enough why not just do both.

If a filter was getting so dirty to need changing at 3K miles you have more serious problems, the filter is really only there to catch the odd speck of debris that can cause a bearing to fail.

As for 15K miles between oil changes, I could never do that. I go as far as 5K miles but I do that in 2 months or less.
