Just ordered the 4.083 + full install kit from Adam @ Z1auto. Thanks Adam! Also have a shop lined up to do the install. Quoted about 6~8 hours @ $450 total. Can't wait to get these puppies installed. :-)
Must... continue... feeding... the... addiction.... Lol~

I have a 2008 350z base. Does the 4.08 final drive fit on the 2008? Seems like it only fits for 2007 and older according to the webshops I've looked at?
Thinking of getting a LSD to be mounted at the same time. Quafie since it fits the base axel, or is there a less expensive way for some type of diff brake?

yes it fits 08 as well
if you have a base the Quaife is your best bet. Other diffs work too with additional parts, but it all comes out to be right around the same price

Bitter sweet: Reality check.
Many shops may say they can do the swap, but until they actually dig into it, they'll find they probably can't do it "right". It takes very specialized expensive 'nissan' tools and specialized 'nissan' experience to do the 4.08 swap right.
This 4.08 swap is apparently radically different than the somewhat standarized 350Evo 3.9 swap. And trying to source shims for this kit is a nightmare. The thing about it is, if the swap isn't done right, you won't know the diff is eating itself up for at least 5k miles. By then it's too late and you're buying a new diff.
I have litterally called everyone and come up empty:
*ATL (Balanced Performance, Lamar Waldon, Poston, Twisted Engineering, Lethal Performance, all the nissan dealerships, drag shops, 4x4 shops, friends of friends - I don't know if Forged can do it but I don't deal with them anymore)
*East Coast (Function Tuned, Jap Trix, 350Evo, waiting on a callback from MRC & Perf Factory)
*West Coast (Perf nissan, Technosquare, SPG)
And after asking the right questions, have discovered very few can actually do this swap "correctly". And I have found only two places in the USA that even stock the shims for this kit. One in NC and one in Cali.
But on a positive note: GTM and Injected Performance say they have the right tools and experience for the job. So I'll be boxing up all the parts and shipping them out along with my pumpkin. Total cost of the swap (parts, labor, shipping, rental car, etc) about $1,700...
So, if you're going to do this mod, just plan ahead and expect a week or two of downtime.

The average 4x4 shop is in no way qualified to do this mod. I have litterally called everyone and have come up empty:

And after asking the right questions, have discovered very few can actually do this swap "correctly". Blah.

Add me to the "list", finished my 4.08s and Nismo LSD in my 07 5AT last Sunday. 4.08s are not too much IMO for the automatic. 80mph is 3400 in the 5AT as well, I thought it would be higher. First is not too short, no real traction issues to speak of, but I do have 275 pilot sport 2s and the 1.5 LSD is probably helping a bit too! Also, third gear max's out at 90mph now instead of 115mph previously with the 3.357s, so I hope to see a positive impact in the 1/8mile (not many 1/4 mi. tracks near me and will have one more shift). I'm not sure if there were any other 5ATs with 4.08s yet, I have read so many posts about gears, the're all running together.

Anyone that has a Nismo LSD, if you use Motul 90 PA Synthetic Oil, which you can only order online, will take away ALL of the Nismo LSD noises.
I have a Nismo LSD and once I put in the Motul Diff Oil, all my LSD noises went away.
It is recommended that you change out the oil every 6,000 miles.
I have had no problems with the oil or my LSD
You can order them through Z-1 Performance site

I ordered mine through Sharif last Friday. What percentage lock did you have your initial torque set at? I left mine as set from the factory, but unsure if that is mid or max setting, do you know Andrew?

I currently have mine set at 1.5 way and 60%
I have asked what setting is good for the Z on other forums and cannot get an answer. I have talked to Shay at Nismo parts.com and he said depends on what you want to do. He gave me a nunmber to another guy that had some useful information. Shay's guy said that if you want to drift then set the LSD for 2-way other wise to get better performance and handling leave it at 1.5 way setting.
The torque setting of 60% 80% 110%, I think those are the settings, depends on what your doing with the Z. Obviously if you are drag racing then set the torque to the highest rating, other wise keep it set at the lowest mark, which I believe is 60% for better performance around a track.
I get my 4.08 gears installed on Thursday this week, so I'm pretty excited about it after reading everyone's post
