How are the 4.08 gears for driving on the street?

I have a 2005 G with the revup engine and the limiter bumped to 7200. I'm trying to decide between the 3.917 and 4.08 gears. I have 285/35x19's in the rear, so I'm thinking maybe the 4.08's... just wondering if that would be too low for street driving. It sounds fun to me.

 

I really enjoy the way the car feels on the street... For you and the size of your rims, i would think it would be a nice mod. It will give you alot of you power back that your losing from those heavy 19inch rims and tires.

Is you G a 6spd?

Yes, it's a 6 speed.

I know 19s are heavy, but the one-piece CE28N's are pretty light for such big wheels. My car's also heavier than a Z, so that might be another reason to go for the 4.08's.

Thanks for the reply. I'm sort of following your path, but I'm a year or so behind you. I like doing mods one at a time, too. It's sort of like getting a new car every few months. My best mod so far has been a tune with Osiris. I was surprised at how much difference it made.

 

A friend of mine, installed the Osiris and test pipes and was able to knock .5 (14.2 to a 13.7 )off of his 1/4 mile time. It DOES make a big difference.

Will you ever be able to tune your own car, or do you have to send it back in to be reflashed everytime?

Im not familiar with the story. How were you able to get these installed so cheaply? Im somewhat local to you, so this could help me out.

Also...did you have to buy new shims and bearings?

Wow, a half a second is amazing. It does make quite a bit of difference, though.

I don't have to send the ECU off to be tuned now. I use UpRev's Cipher (comes with Osiris package) to log my ECU parameters during a couple of 0-60mph runs and e-mail them to UpRev. UpRev's tuners (Jared) interprets the logs and creates a ROM file that Osiris will flash to my ECU. I receive the ROM file via e-mail and flash my ECU with my notebook. You can have up to five different maps (93 octane, 91 oct, stock, valet...) and change them with the cruise control buttons.

UpRev is coming out with an upgraded version of Osiris that will allow end users to individually tune their cars in real time. A version of this already exists and some of the big shops (GTM, etc.) currently use it. This will be what you want to wait for.

 

I was suprised to knock off the .5 sec. at the track night.

Matt and Jared are very helpful and I was told that enduser portion of OSIRIS is in the works. I hope that the "upgrade" cost will be fair. I feel that the pricing of OSIRIS is very good considering the potential of the product.

 

I think I've decided to get this mod for my car. Although my redline is still at 6600 ... I wanna see what this baby can do. I'll make vids and post them for you guys once this mod is done ... it should be pretty insane ...

 

The 4.083 gears might be a bit much with out the reflash..

So the 4.083 gears would bring an 07 gearing near the 3.5 on a DE? Damn, I wonder how bad it would walk the 03.

 

Pretty damn bad I would assume. Stock for Stock the 07 walks a 03 pretty bad. Throw these gears in the mix

If you look at the results in the drag forum...07's are almost in the 12's with very little done to them.

I think im going to get these gears and keep my 7500 redline. I have a base model and im just concerned about traction...

Knocking off half a second in the quarter mile is incredible! That's an amazing performance bump.

UpRev has been very fair in their upgrade pricing so far. I purchased Cipher quite a while ago and they discounted Osiris by the amount I paid for Cipher. I thought that was a good/fair deal.

Once they add knock detection to Cipher and finish the end user tuneable version of Osiris, that should eliminate the need for piggybacks on NA cars. I'm currently trying to fight off the urge to buy a UTEC.

 

Anyone know if Uprev has made Osiris able to read off aftermarket O2 sensors so as to enable non-rev ups to send in their datalogs for fine tuning? thanks.

 

Osiris is not currently able to read aftermarket o2 sensors. Maybe in the future, but regardless of this functionality I still love mine.
