Default Tranny conversion

How hard is it to change a AT to a MT on a Z... Is it possible

if possible how much does it cost for the tranny and parts to convert(pedals and ect)

If anyone has done this before i would really appreciate input or advice like if its worth it not worth it

I have never done it on a 350z but I'm assuming its about as hard as the one we did in my 240sx.

AT to MT is good because you wont need the ECU like you would going from MT to AT.

In some cases the car doesnt have the hole punched for the clutch cylinder, so You have to drill a hole through your firewall at [xx] size, then drill the 2 holes for the bolts. You gotta pretty much rip the bottom part of the dash apart to squeeze your drill and tools up there.

Swap trannies and run your hard lines, now would be a good time to upgrade to a SS braided clutch line. You will probably need new interior parts as you'll have the automatic parts.

Also you will probably need the MT driveshaft, along with a new clutch and flywheel.

Its hard and time consuming. It also takes either a lot of mechanical knowledge OR a lot of money. In the case of a 350z, you're going to need a lot of money more than likely.

keep it auto and put a bunch of the g35x all wheel drive sedan's drive train up front and make your Z into an AWD model.

it's not worth it. Right now the z still have good value. Mine as well trade it in for another one then having a hacked up one.

1. Possible.
2. LOTS of money
3. Not worth it (unless ur car is already so "built" that your money is invested in that car; i.e. fully built engine, turbo setup, all the breathing mods, etc. where trading it in/selling it does not make economical sense b/c the a/t is so far from stock).

A LOT of fabrication work (It's not a matter of just swapping trannies there's a lot more that needs to be done like cutting your cabin to make room for and fabbing mounts for the shifter, hand brake, etc.), and there will still be some issue(s) no matter how clean an conversion imo. For instance, no matter what, ur transmission light will always be on (the solution here being to cover over the tranny light area inside the guage)--small things like that and big things like spending LOTS of $$$$$$$$$

IF ur that serious about wanting a 6 m/t tranny, it will be more cost effective and "complete" if you just sell/trade-in ur a/t and buy a m/t, like many others have already said.

Im too lazy to search right now, but there are a some threads on AT to MT conversions that have been done..There's some interesting stuff there, I think it was GTM that did a couple but dunno.

GTM did it on Gurgen's G35 sedan. GTM has a thread on it in the E/DT/FI section, but I'm too lazy to search for it. Not worth the $$, may as well trade cars.
