It's been done a few times. McKinney Motorsport can provide the ecu harness and hardware needed for the swap. But why? I think the SR swap makes sense if you wanted 320-350whp, in the lightest possible configuration. The SR swap would hit those numbers easily, and fairly reliably, while also being a lot cheaper than trying to squeeze those numbers from a NA VQ build, and also be a decent amount lighter than a FI set-up on the VQ. So, I can see a purpose to it, and I don't harbor a lot of the hate some people do about swapping engines in the Z, but unless you are trying to achieve this specific goal, I don't recommend it.

Do a quick search on google and you'll find a bunch of vendor prices for the various SR engines available.

yes it is. Nissansportmagizine editor Dave has a sr20de in one of his 350z it is possible. but he did it only to stay in gt3 series with restrictions. would not recommend it for anything else but that

chris forsberg's backup drift car is an SR20 powered Z
Weights 2300lbs or so with 3/4 tank of gas and driver I believe.

I would guess 15k up and running? More if you want to build it? Never looked into it, your best bet is call a shop who has indeed done this swap and pick their brains.

The Nissan Sport Project 350Z GT3 car is not a street car by any means. Purpose-built tubeframe racecar with sillouette bodywork and SR20VE power is anything but street legal!

If the OP is looking to replace his engine, then putting your $$ into a VQ35DE is the only cost-effective way to go.

Cheaper to throw a vortech on a VQ and have a lot more torque without lag.

Why bother? There are plenty of other swaps that will make you more power with a better powerband.

Cheaper yes, better no.
A SR20 will easily save you 100lbs-150lbs (over the front wheels none-the-less) compared to a VQ with a vortech ontop. Not sure how much a vortech weights but im willing to guess its a good 75lbs with everything. The SR20 is already about 50lbs lighter than the vq (I think) Also the SR20 could be placed lower and farther back in the engine bay for better weight distribution. Not to mention the aftermarket for an SR20 is enormous. If you got a deal on an already built sr20 then its game over vortech.

It's been done. . .I don't see the point in going backwards though. . .

It's possible to put any engine into any car. . .depends on how much $$ you're willing to spend. . .

do it and write a review. . .

This is dumb...Not to criticize lol. I just can't see putting a 2.0 L engine in a Z. Just get a Vortech Centrifugal or some really good NA mods.
