SR20 in a 350z?
Hey guys, is it possible for a SR20 to be put into an 04 Z? I've got to replace my motor and was looking at possible options...any ideas as well on price for the sr? Thanks for any help! Cheers!
It's been done a few times. McKinney Motorsport can provide the ecu harness and hardware needed for the swap. But why? I think the SR swap makes sense if you wanted 320-350whp, in the lightest possible configuration. The SR swap would hit those numbers easily, and fairly reliably, while also being a lot cheaper than trying to squeeze those numbers from a NA VQ build, and also be a decent amount lighter than a FI set-up on the VQ. So, I can see a purpose to it, and I don't harbor a lot of the hate some people do about swapping engines in the Z, but unless you are trying to achieve this specific goal, I don't recommend it.
Do a quick search on google and you'll find a bunch of vendor prices for the various SR engines available.

yes it is. Nissansportmagizine editor Dave has a sr20de in one of his 350z it is possible. but he did it only to stay in gt3 series with restrictions. would not recommend it for anything else but that
chris forsberg's backup drift car is an SR20 powered Z
Weights 2300lbs or so with 3/4 tank of gas and driver I believe.

If the OP is looking to replace his engine, then putting your $$ into a VQ35DE is the only cost-effective way to go.

A SR20 will easily save you 100lbs-150lbs (over the front wheels none-the-less) compared to a VQ with a vortech ontop. Not sure how much a vortech weights but im willing to guess its a good 75lbs with everything. The SR20 is already about 50lbs lighter than the vq (I think) Also the SR20 could be placed lower and farther back in the engine bay for better weight distribution. Not to mention the aftermarket for an SR20 is enormous. If you got a deal on an already built sr20 then its game over vortech.
It's been done. . .I don't see the point in going backwards though. . .
It's possible to put any engine into any car. . .depends on how much $$ you're willing to spend. . .
do it and write a review. . .
