Default my 5th and 6th gears grind

when i get on it and shift quickly my gears in 5th and 6th grind for a sec. and go into gear. when i slowly put the car into either gear there is no grinding.
Is this the sencrows? or is this a tanny prob.?
How much would it cost to get fixed?

I'm assuming you have either an 03 or 04, and this can be fixed by having your syncros replaced. At least that was the problem with mine.

Also, are you using a different oil than what Nissan recommends?

yes it's your syncros, replace your tranny. how many miles on the car? you have an 04 so you may be within the 5 year/60k warranty.

How often do you actually need to speed shift 5th and 6th? My 5th gear will sometimes grind when speed shifting, but the frequency of that does not warrant me replacing the transmission.... I've got better things to spend my money on.

id rather have my car fixed with no issue than to spend my money on things that i dont really need. So b4 i do anything to this car, i would like to replace the tranny. How much should the tranny cost me, ive seen them for about 800 shipped, and should i get the 009?

5th and 6th both have single cone synchros... chances are good a new tranny will eventually do the same thing if you get in the habit of speed shifting those gears... knock yourself out I guess....

i bought my car used and it grinded 3rd on the test drive. just normal driving too. if i engage the clutch, and put it into neutral, wait a second, then go to 3rd, it doesnt grind. the dealership agreed to fix the problem if i bought the car. i bought the car, they inspected it... turns out i need a new tranny now

synchros are crap on the Z trannies....I had the same issue on 5th and 6th...it is a tranny out job..so expect the usual labour rates to kick in...Dont spend money on a new tranny...these things will happen again on the new box as well.

but wont it be better to replace the whole new tranny, than to pay for the syncros to be fixed, wont this cost me about the same? I took it up to a local place and i told them about my prob., they said around 2k to replace them. does that sound about right?

Nope, too expensive. If you're under your 5yr/60k warranty, get it done under that. I'm going tomorrow to the dealer and telling them I'm sick of having this grinding problem, even after the syncros have been replaced. I want a new transmission.
