4.3 Final Drive Thread
They are more expensive to buy though since they cost more but I assume that is because the demand is a lot lower for them. The post you are speaking of that Adam was doing before I'm guessing was before they found the 4.3 gears they are selling now.
The only use of a 4.3 ring and pinion is if you prefer building the diff. to replacing a fouled spark plug or 2. I've been running the 4.08 for a while and on a street car, it's the most I'd do. In NC, we have 70 MPH speed limits and the revs hover around 3k on the highway. As said above, starting in cold/wet weather sometimes generates wheel spin a lot easier than it normally would. 4.3 would be ridiculous. For a track car? Sure, it'd probably be amazing. For a car you drive every day/a couple days a week? Probably would be somewhat annoying. You can already quick shift the hell out of the car (shifting at around 4k?) and just run through the gears. I have a blast with the 4.08s and I'm still telling anyone who's thinking about them to jump right in. You'll feel like you have a new car.
There is now a drop in set. Not something that was offered at the time I did it in my car which was a while ago, so my set was very much a custom affair. As far as a review, it's all basic math, just plug #s into a gear calculator. Requires the right engine setup to make it worthwhile, its not useful on a bolt on car, the engine has to have a high redline. and yes I'd never go back (had 3.9 before). Don't find it annoying whatsoever it matches perfectly to the rest of my setup. Fwiw, traction is a non issue, and I dont have a track car. My car doesn't see rain unless it's unavoidable and when it has it's like anything else - drive sensibly and there are no surprises
I'll be trying out 3.90's soon here once I get the gears set up. I'm really wanting 2nd to be stronger for autox'ing and since the car isn't driven daily by my brother and myself I don't think it will be a problem but we'll see how the 3.90's are and go from there. Hoping with the HR having a little higher redline (I know it's not 8400 like you have) might help some and not make the 4.30's too much but we'll just have to see how the 3.90's are.

Great thread as usual Adam!
I love my 4.083s and my car is a daily so I think the 3100 or so rpm at 70 I see is as high as I can go.
I am really seeing the difference as I have has the oem open back in since Thursday as I had to rebuild due to shoddy workmanship by my old shop. What Adam said about taking it to someone that knows what they are doing is so very true. I am spending over 700 proving that right.
