Default 4.3 Final Drive Thread

We've review on 3.9 and 4.083, now we see 4.3.

Any has it?
Is it too much for 350Z NA?
The gear comes off which car?
Any review would be good.

I have a 3.9 and I could see having a 4.083 but unless you have some other kind of setup 4.3 sounds like too much.

I think it would be useful if your commute included driving uphill both ways and the hills were at 45 degree angles and had lots of stoplights.

Another use would be for doing 1st gear burnouts on command by simply feathering the throttle.

Or we can just wait to see what Adam/Kwame say.

Seriously, we don't know what to expect out of it. It could be a complete blast or it could completely suck. I'd imagine with Adam's 8400rpm redline though it will be pretty fun. However, as you mentioned, standstill starts might be a chore especially with this cooler weather we are starting to get up here in New York.

Either way we will let you know as soon as it has been installed.

The 240SX people use the 4.3 FD with the NA KA24. Unless you are revving to the moon, I don't see the 4.3 being worth it over a 4.083.

find your favorite online gear calculator and just plug in the relevant data

Edit

acemand used this one:

Just for fun, here a side by side of my current 3.9 setup and the new 4.3, assuming we get it to work

3.9

1st..........43
2nd.........71
3rd..........102
4th..........130
5th..........165
6th..........208

Cruising 60mph in 6th gear - approximately at 2450 rpm
Crusing 70 mph in 6th gear - approximately at 2850 rpm

4.3

1st..........39
2nd..........64
3rd..........92
4th..........118
5th..........150
6th..........188

Cruising 60 mph in 6th gear - approximately 2700 rpm
Cruising 70 mph in 6th gear - 3100 rpm

I'd disagree Logic tell us what to expect out of it - what we need to first confirm is whether or not it fits (we already know of a 1 difference), hopefully they are not obstacles that we can't overcome. I don't think there will be any issue with launches, the car just doesn't have enough torque for it to be a big issue, and the Cusco LSD only helps and I've got good tires. That being said, I don't expect it to be a big seller, and that's just fine - I still want it because, assuming it fits, it will make the car even more fun that it already is.

Sorry updates have been slow on this guys....it's the first ring and pinion install we've done on a Z, and finding time outside of the normal workload, so we're going slowly, and I had to wait a few days for some extra parts to arrive. Once it's done, I'll make a thread about it

I don't think I'd like a 4.3. The rpms would be much higher @ cruising speeds on the hwy. I like my 3000ish rpm @ 80mph. Especially since my speed is off already due to my wheel and tire combo. When my speedo is showing 80, I'm really only going about 74-75ish.

Can someone give me a quick lesson on gearing, the higher the gear the slower you go but faster you can accelerate?

Do keep us posted. I was looking at 4.083 but I was hoping to have a car that accelerates like a dirt bike . I would be extreme fun.

Dustin, I didn't think tire/wheel size messed up our speedos

Hahaha

I am very excited about this 4.3 FD as Highway speed limit in my area is 90km/h. On stock FD I usually travel at 120km @ 3K-ish rpm. Got a speeding tkt recently and I think this gear will slow down my highway cruising speed enough and yet power at my fingertips for overtaking road hog.
