350EVO..........3.9 Final drive
i'm pretty sure. if you have boost and the final gearing.. your first and second gears would be useless since you wouldnt be able to get traction...
but it would be interested to see, the launch of an NA tuned car with the drive ratios versus a twin turbo car
*cough* *cough* my twin Mr B *cough* *cough*

No they won't be good for anything much more than a near stock motor. I will just leave it at that. It is better to have more power and less gearing on a street car. Trust me. I play on the street and race on the track (other cars). Leave the gearing to the track. This will probably be really great for a track car as you may not see 1st or even second all that often if at all. On the street you see it 100 times a day. 4.11s and 3.73s were great in the muscle car days because the muncies had 2.2 or 2.5 1st gear ratios and the Z has a 3.58 1st gear ratio. It will be too much. I'm done here, take it for what it's worth.
Also, if there are any auto trans Z's in the metroplex or san antonio who want to do a mod like this let me know. i will trade you rear ends or at least the gears. the manual has lower gears that will accelerate you faster. I would love to trade you.

1st and 2nd gear are very very useable with this modification.
1st/ 38.9 / 35.1
2nd/ 63.5 / 57.3
3rd/ 90.8 / 82.0
4th/ 116.1 / 104.8
5th/ 147.1 / 132.9
6th/ 185.6 / 167.6
that is OEM speed vs the 3.9 final drive at 6850 RPM

This is a very useable set up.
Ditto.
This will be a smackdown must have mod. Once you change that gear and feel the pull, you won't go back. And this is most definitely a street mod as well. I bet 0-60 will approach 5.0 secs with good tires and a fast shift hand.
Just my .02 cents.
I sent an email about getting on the list. Can you check it out dwnshift? Emailed under Geoff Brown, Thanks

Depends on how you look at it. I mod towards a goal. It is my opinion that the gearing in the Z is pretty much as short as it is going to get and still be useful. Some people want to just accelerate faster. I want to use power to accomplish that and use taller gears to shift less often, get more MPH out of each gear, have a higher top speed, and get better mileage by turning less RPMs while cruising. Seems like an upgrade to me as long as you get some power. Don't get me wrong, if you are keeping stock to stock+50 or so HP, get some lower gears. That is not my plan.

We would really like to help you install this mod!
We would like to have a first hand look at the install as well as driving the car with it because we always consider new mods for our vehicles.
I guess I wish I was in Cali too. There are no takers in Texas I guess. I have no idea what install would normally cost. I get cost on all parts needed for the rebuild and very cheap labor.
Wanna take a road trip to Texas?

I'd rather change gearing and add hp by keeping the motor N/A. Adding gobs of power only adds stress to not only the engine but the whole car. So, it would seem you end up spending much more money overall , taking into account failures, if you use FI and keep the gearing the same. Just my opinion.
I have always like the idea of swapping out rear ends.
