Default Vdc, Tcs, Wtf??

Just came back from CT with a procharged Track model (371RWHP).

I just got on it today on the way to the gas station and the [slip] light flashed on while shifting from 1st to 2nd and again from 2nd to 3rd. I did not like the feeling at all. I see the button for shutting off the VDC. Is that the button to use to keep that from happening? How does the VDC work? Does it shut off the fuel at all possibly creating a lean condition? What is TCS (if it's not another acronym for the same thing)? Can I shut that off as well? Can both of these be permanently shut off? I don't drive this car in the rain or snow. Thanks in advance for the input.

TCS is the feature that controls wheelspin.. it controls the throttle input to reduce wheelspin.

VDC is the feature that combined with TCS, works with braking the individual wheels to control the car and get it back online (correcting a spin for instance).

Both features can be turned off using the VDC button in your car.. they can not be turned off seperately (cars without VDC, but do have TCS have just a TCS button in the same place).

The feature automatically turns on when the car is started.. but you can rig a system to get around that.. search the forum for posts on how to modify it.

It shouldn't create a lean condition because it doesn't cut fuel.. it controls the throttle input.

Have you considered reading your manual?

Yes. I did read it last year when I got the car, but don't remember much of an explanation as to how the VDC worked. Anyways, these forums tend to have much better answers. Also, I didn't think that manual would explain exactly what the vdc used or how to permanently bypass it. Don't think Nissan would see a need to put that stuff in the basic owners manual. What the hey, I'll read it before bedtime tomorrow night. Thanks for the advice.

what size rim/tires do you have?

p.s. i'm not sure if i understood your post right, you are the procharged Z, or you went w/ one? or you had one installed in CT and had problems on the way back?

I went to Ct with the blower belt taken off because the Procharger oil change was overdue. XXtuning installed colder plugs, changed the oil and installed a grounding kit for me. I had no problems on the way back and in general have had no real problems with the Procharger. I do have a rattle on the passenger side somewhere. ...and I have a new rattle somewhere around the gauges I installed in the nav. compartment. ---I expected this because I had 2 screws left over after putting the dash back in. It's a pain working on the dash, but I certainly need to put screws back where they belong sometime!

As far as the VDC goes, I just need to remember to shut it off when having fun w/the acceleration. Thanks flynnibus for the info.

Oh yeah, I have the Track model stock rims & tires (Rays Engineering) - although that may change next year. I REALLY liked what I saw on the cars in CT. Starting to save $$ now.

I did not know that, so if you have a model with VDC and TCS, there still only one button that turns both on and both off but not separtly? hmm. mine just has the TCS (one button of course).

Mine for some reason didn't kick on the other day when it should have. I was trying to beat a left turn light and had the car in 2nd, made the turn pretty hard and kicked it a little, well the car got sideways some. I let off the gas and it straighten back up (as it should). So the car was breaking traction, but TCS never kicked in. Strange, I thought.

Correct... only one button.

Sometimes the system can be slow to react.. its not always 100%

I've gotten the car 90 deg one night on a slick parking lot just with throttle input without VDC ever kicking in.. but in general its pretty good.

With VDC switched off, does it kick back on when you use the brakes momentarily like other car makes like ESP like during trailbraking? The Track model I test drove rather robustly felt like it.

no....when you turn the TCS button off, both VDC and TCS (if you have both, some may just have TCS) stay off until you click the button or re-start your car..........hope this helps.

zyal8rnj, get some wider tires in the back. Those stock tires SUCK with the procharger. You'll get less tire spin so the VDC/TCS won't kick in as much if you forget to turn it off.

The car's a beast with the SC on ain't it.
