Default What is RPM ar idle?

I just noticed this morning that my idle was about 490 rpm. I think that is too low. I had just installed RT cats and Y Pipe. So I'm thinking I need like a TS ECU to correct this. Any one know if thats right?

You might want to boost it. When I installed my Flywheel it did the same thing. But all I did since im friends with the service manager at my dealership is ask him to use The CONSULT II to bump my RMPS up to about 800. It was cheap, fast, and it works.

So go and ask for an adjustment using the "consoultent II"? What does that exactly do?

The CONSULT II unit will flash program data to the ECU. Check out http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/nissan/ecm.asp?

My datalogger says about 650 at idle and my Z is dead stock.

the idle depends on cooland and intake air temperature. unless it's stumbling, I don't think 490 RPM is an issue. Furthermore, exhaust system changes would not affect your idle.

The factory service manual says 650 is normal with a swing of 50 revolutions in either direction.

Try an idle relearn. If that doesn't work find a mod friendly dealer and they will bump the idle for you.

Yes, The CONSULT II its called I wasnt realy sure but all I know is it works. They will plug it into your cars ECU port and from the Consult II they can see your RMPS and higher them and lower them. Also when you think your happy with the RMPs turn on your A/C to make sure its not to high. The whole process will take about 2 minutes and it is a setting that will stay even if you reset your ECU. Hope this helps

Thats 650 is about right. I bumped mine up to 800 cause when the RPMS drop below that my Lightweight Flywheel would make that loud cement mixer sound but as soon as the RMPS hit 800 the sound was like cut in half till 2K then it disapears.. So since you have the Flywheel which is why your RPMS droped you might want to try it also... Plus it makes it move drivable as in easier to get out of 1st. When your RMPS are at 450 you let out the clutch a lilililililil bit to much you can stall real easy. Its up to you..

Yeah I think its too low, I'll raise the RPM's when I get a chance. I was driving for about 30 mins, waiting at a stop light when I discorved this. Will it be harmful if I leave it like that for too long?
