using oil after 4k
haven't had an oil change yet, been about 4-4500K miles since the last change and am a quart low...should I be concerned? I don't think I should be burning that much.
I talked to like 4 or 5 different dealership's service departments regarding oil consumption. All said burning up to a quart every 2500-3k was normal.
Also take into consideration the crappy design of the dipstick, it leaves error for crappy readings. I bet you didnt really lose a quart.
By the way, if you use synthetic oil with a decent filter you should be fine. I'd change oil soon though.

I talked with the California Motul distributor/rep today for a good hour or more and chatted about oil and all sorts of things. He said the 300v oil is by far the best stuff you can get for very hard driving, but he was very adamant about changing at 3500 miles and not going futher than that. Apparently the 300v (despite it being just about the best pure synthetic you can get for racing) lacks the additives that other oils have which allow them to go for long miles between changes. So, it's the best oil you can get as far as lubrication, but you must not run it longer than 3500 miles or so. And it's really expensive.

As far as normal daily driving oil for normal cars under most conditions, he actually recommended the 8100 series instead. Cheaper and goes many more miles. It's the equivalent of other oils like Mobil 1 synthetic, Redline, etc. (But better, of course.)
In particular, he recommended the "8100 E-Tech lite 0w-30" for the Z. (They don't have 5w-30 in that line, but he said 0w-30 was perfectly okay.)Anyway, just wanted to pass this along. I cannot confirm nor deny the accuracy of this info. This is jus what the rep told me.

i know the 300v isn't good for a long mile.
i personally changed it every 2 track days, or 3 months if the millage does not reach 3000km.
