just did this today with motul gear 300...used a brand new washer for the tranny drain bolt and the old one for the diff because nissan gave me the wrong washer for the rear. drove about 50 miles with no problems and VERY smooth shifting. Happy Motul customer here!

So did the tranny upshift/downshift in all gears better with Motul than previous tranny fluid (what was in the tranny before)? What was the outside temps?

Guys, I have a slight issue. I have the turbonetics kit on my car. Changed differential fluid, transmission fluid, motor oil and drive belts...

After doing all that, the car seems extremely sluggish, heavy and slow. I used amsoil 75w90 for the transmission, 75w90 severe gear for the diff with sliplock...

Does anyone have any idea as to what it could be? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

edit: I have an 05 350z Manual Transmission.

My car has been notchy since switching to Royal Purple in the trans. I'm switching to Motul 300 soon. Just ordered it.

I can't downshift to 1st when moving sometimes if it's cool. It's horrible. Royal Purple is crap.

Is that a limited slip additive? If so, that may be your problem. To change viscus limited slip fluid, you would have to remove the diff cover and get to the casing INSIDE. The gear oil you changed is only lubing the ring and pinion gears. Maybe the additive is thicking up the gear oil when it heats up.

Read a lil info on Amsoil about the Slip Lock and what I wrote above I believe is true. Factory 2003 Performance limited slip diffs are viscus type. The friction modifier you put in is for mechanical limited slip diffs. Change the fluid again without the Slip Lock.

Google limited slip diffs and you should get some explainations between the differential types.

Very helpful write up. Thanks Monsta. Did mine last night. Hardest parts were getting the car high enough and breaking loose the tranny fill plug.

How important is it to use a torque wrench? I figure get it adequately tight so the plugs can't come out but not so tight I can't get them off in 3 years without pulling a muscle.

Not a problem.

I put them on gutntight! Be careful not to torque them TOO hard cuz the transmission is very soft.

Great thread! It took me all day to read it all... However, I am still split between Amsoil & Motul. Which brand should I go with? I was leaning more towards Amsoil even though I'm running Motul for my clutch fluids.

Any suggestions would be apreciated.

Yes, that is a limited slip additive. I went back to stock trans and diff oil, (although the amsoil Tech said it wouldnt make a difference) And the car went back to normal, alot more smooth.
Thanks alot for your help...

I changed my gear oil today and used Royal Purple.

It is a GL-5, as well as a GL-4 rated oil. I chose it because it was the only Synthetic I could find local that did not have sulfur in it. (I wanted Redline...but it's not sold within a 40+ mile distance from my house and I'm impatient) From searching many other sites, I have found that most GL-5 rated oils contain sulfur and that is the additive that is bad for the synro's.

It did make the rear quieter, time will tell if I made a good or bad choice.

Ok....have read all 19 pages, and haven't really figured out which diff fluid to go with: Motul, Redline, or Amsoil?

I have a 2003 touring that is never tracked or anything. Looking at the Amsoil....any reason to go with the others or is it more personal preference?

Also, it looks like we don't need the LSD additive, correct?

I went with Amsoil and I'm loving it! And yes, no additive on LSD.

Thanks. That was my thought. Was leaning more towards Amsoil anyways, just didn't know about the additive.

Make sure that you get the crush washers from dealer just to be on the safe side.

Put in 2qts of Amsoil 80w-90 in the diff tonight....wasn't paying attention and scratched my head. Now I stink like holy hell!!! That old stuff was just fried too.....60k on it! Will be making this regular maintenance now. SUPER easy with the pump on the Amsoil web site.

why did you use 2 quarts MTL and 2 quarts MT-90? why not just all MT-90?

is the motul THAT great? it's double the cost of everyone else. 20$ a quart! that's just nuts.
