what diff oil are you guys using to change the diff for those with no lsd?
for non-synthetic, what is the mileage before the next change? what about for synthetics?

(But I track my car a lot, so I do stuff more frequently than I would for a street-only car.)
I don't even need a pump for the diff. I just put the tip of the bottle in and squeeze the fluid in.

^^ hey are you unable to recall what the name of the pump is at all? i went to autozone but unfortunately they dont have anything that looks like that...

^^ thanks... found the exact same one at pep boys... but man that thing is a PITA to pump... when i pump it, there's like a strong resistance, so i have to pump it harder... a dam 2 quart took me an hour just to pump...
i tested water and it pumped so easily... im guessing it's because oil flows slower... anyone encounter this as well?

Just bought some from ConceptZperformance.com.... Cheapest source possible.
I have not changed the tranny fluid yet b/c my cars at 41k miles, but it'll be going in when i do my next oil change at 45k.

Changed the diff and tranny fluid this weekend. Thanks for the DIY. My lesson learned is to get the pump gun. That stupid suction pump was a PITA and tiring. I even broke mine and had to go out for another one and this time I decided to get the pump gun. $10 from harbor Freight and was so much easier. Fill it up and shoot the fluid in.

gonna try royal purple we will see how it works out since i'm in texas and once a year maybe we will get into the teens.

I use Castrol Syntec Full Synthetic Gear Oil 75W90. I could never find it in stores, always get it from Amazon.com.

Recently used Royal Purple Max Gear on the rear diff and factory Nissan MTL for the 6MT. Got bout 500 miles on the new change and trany shifts smoother. Bout the only difference felt. Maybe a slight MPG increase. Hard to tell she drives it like a Z should be driven. Think the synthetic is a "piece of mind" thing IMO.

And I used to get a random howling noise from the rear when the car was cold (I assumed maybe it was the diff?) but now with new fluid I havn't heard it at all.

So i just finished replacing my diff fluid and I found an easier method thanks to the guy at advance auto. I went there to pick up a pump and he told me that he use to work on the Z and knows an easier way to fill the diff without using the pump. If you take the spare tire out you'll notice there is a round black rubber piece under it. If you pop it off you can run a tub through the hole down to the fill hole. All you have to do then is put one end into the fill hole and stick a funnel on the other end and then just pour the diff fluid through the trunk. There is no need to lift the car up and it fills the diff quickly without any mess. Unfortunately I didn't take any pics but it's not hard to find the rubber plug. It only takes like 10 mins to fill the diff and all you have to do is just stand there an pour.
