I don't know if you would really consider my oil catch can to be "homemade" since I cnc'd it but here is a link to it:

Nope. I've never had any oil problems with the hose on the driver's side.

now how those this work in FI? I understand the whole concept for NA but once you are boosting in a FI Z dosnt the air from the line from the manifold start going backwards and push air into the case ware the "vapors" are coming from? im pretty sure that is not a good idea, em I right? can someone with better knowledge chime in please? I know I want one and allot of FI cars have catch cans but how it works during boost vs vacuum surpasses me.

We are talking about "blowby" here, crankcase vapors.

Bought all my stuff, I came upon a confusion when installing. I noticed when I opened the cap, I saw the outlet/inlet to be different designs. Which way are we suppose to route it to?

I'm guessing crankcase to the flow as show in attached picture then to lower plenum... since I looked into the hole and it points straight down. The OP routed it the other way though.

*note* one nozzle is shorter than the other

Update:

Hi Guys~ I did this mod this weekend per the above DIY instructions. Parts cost about $25USD at Home Depot, fuel injection line was a couple bucks at Auto Zone, and took me about 45 minutes to fabricate & install (I'm sure someone with more experience could install it faster). So far it's working great.

um so what happens when the vacuum line becomes boosted? is it ok to not allow the crankcase to breath?

Air comes out of the crankcase, goes through the can and out to the plenum. You want the arrow on the can (there should be an arrow stamped on top of the can) to point towards the plenum. The arrow indicates the direction of air flow.

My catch can didn't seem to be catching much oil, so I thought I'd try an upgrade. I put some coarse stainless steal 'pot scrubber' mesh in the can to give the oil something to condense on. It seems to be catching more blow-by now...

Just wondering, how much oil are you guys collecting from this so far? I get about half full every 2 or 3 days. This is without steel wool mesh too. Am I collecting too much?

I have the same catch can (actualy it's the larger version of the can with the bottom release valve) and it works fine, i empty it about every 3 weeks, or whenever it gets about half way full. I put about 60 miles on the car every day so that gets to be around every 700-900 miles.

As far as the steel mesh, isn't there a danger that small piece of this steel mesh will break off and gets sucked back into the engine ?
I imagine that could cause some damage ?

do aftermarket catch cans catch this much oil? can any owners chime in as to how much? to be getting that much oil seems like an issue.

No and if in a 1,000,000 to 1 chance it did it would cause no damage whatsoever
