GL... I recently just had a shop finish up my 2j sc single turbo build as I needed alot of custom welding. Sometimes it is best to let the pros take over if $$ allows! GL

So now comes the dilemma.

I've been in discussions with another garage to finish it off for me but it wont be until later this year/early next year. If I do go ahead with it then I will be making a few changes to the spec of the car.

Depending on the outcome of the cost discussion then I may still end up breaking it.

Either way, its home with me now and I can take my time to decide what I'm doing

Nice car! What turbo? t4 journal bearing...?

Turbo is a Borg Warner S366 but will likely be swapped out for a Precision 6266

I wouldnt get too excited over it

The car is being broken at the moment, after 14 months I'm fed up of it and refuse to put any more cash into it

List of what needs doing. This is just from what I have discovered myself in the last few days

Replace rear brake pipes
Install Thermostat (May already be done)
Install pulleys
Install oil filter assembly
setup cams
install water pipe neck
make LHS intercooler pipes
plastic weld front slam panel due to damage
repair FMIC brackets
Make a battery box/brackets behind passenger seat
finish running wires for battery relocation
finish fuel pump install
install fuel filter
purchase and run fuel lines for return system
finish power steering lines
install starter motor
install power steering pump
install tensioner pulley
install oil cooler
install clutch
install flywheel
install crank pulley
install wiring harness
figure out which sensors are required for inlet manifold and purchase
figure out which sensors are required for throttle body and purchase
install vaccuum hoses
finish heater pipe setup
install chassis brace
install front lower arm bar
install rear lower arm bar
install water temp sensor
install oil temp sensor
install oil pressure sensor
install oil catch can
make and install a radiator over flow tank
fabricate a custom decat/downpipe
install custom prop shaft
relocate gear shifter
install oil lines for turbo
install water lines for turbo
Install Accesory belt
finish front brake line install
Fabricate throttle cable bracket and get working with DBW throttle
purchase and install spark plugs
roll rear arches
purchase 4 new tyres
sort alignment
purchase and install welded crank sprocket
Purchase and install electric fans
bypass AC

This is after 14 months & roughly $45K I just dont have the money to keep dumping into it.

Reason?

The BWS366 will make more power than the 6266 and is a heavy duty turbo that built to withstand ~90 PSI on diesel engines.

The Precision turbos are prone to blow the seals. Look up "precision turbo reliability"


If you want a faster spool you can go with a SP QSV or a Treadstone Cast manifold or even both.

Whyyy! Seeing some one give up on a legendary build because of the remaining costs and work really bums me out. I know I'm about 2 months late on this thread but gaaah. Very few z owner will ever be able to pull off a swap like this.

I was near enough $50K into it and the engine had never been fired and there was still a load of work to do.

Unfortunatley I lost a few friends over the build but I am a lot happier now that I'm not spending all my time, energy and money on the build - My GF is a lot happier too

Its not all bad though, I've been able to do loads of things with the money that I raised by parting it out

I bought a new daily

I can't blame you. Hardcore builds take a lot more out of you than people realize. It can be hard to balance life and a money pit build. Spend too much time on the car and you're behind in all sorts of other fields. Too much money; even worse. Live your life and you just have a pile of cash burning away in your garage.

Shame to see this build not come to completion but I understand. My LS1 swapped Z was $80,000 all in when said and done including the purchase of the car.

Hope you like the new toys thought!

Seems like you made a good choice. I would take either of those cars over my G any day. And a house is way more important than a car.
