Question Anyone ever wire they're radar detector into dome lights??

So, I've had several girls in my car, and the stupid wire for the radar detector ALWAYS gets in the way !!! I don't really think that it was the brightest idea for Nissan to put the AC plug behind the seats. However, I do realize that I could get the cigarette lighter adapter for the center console, but then where would I put all my spare change for gas money??? My friend, who is an electrician, suggested wiring the radar detector into the dome lights. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone has attempted this in their Z yet. Comments? Concerns? Ideas?

I dont know about the dome lights because that isnt always hot I dont think; not sure how that works. but I know people have hard wired it into the dash and run the leads somewhere; maybe the fuse box and splice off the cig lighter from there.

If you have a powered mirror, wire it into the power from there, it's much easier than the dome. That is what I did. Using Mike Peronek's mirror mount, it looks great.

The power mirror idea sounds great, I think that would work better, since it only works when the ignition is on.

Maybe it's just on the '05s but there is also an adapter that is underneath the cupholder in front of the passenger seat....

It's not in the way then!

The dome lights are powered even if the keys aren't in the ignition. That would mean that unless you want to turn your detector off every time you get out and on every time you get in, that wouldn't be a good place to wire it. Correct?

The dome light is also controlled by the BCM, I wouldn't wire anything to it....

There have been several people who have hooked things up to the dome lights and the dome lights quit working. There are much better places to pull power from.
