Question Best way to spend $300

I just got a 2005 BASE Z. I'm a college student and I only have $300 right now to spend on mods. I'll probably get a job next semester in which all the money would go towards the Z. Anyway, what's the best way to spend that $300 right now? I'm thinking of either A: Nismo Aluminum shift ****, Aluminum pedals, aluminum kickplates, or B: Decent head unit and decent speakers.

I feel like an idiot. I have no idea what that is. All i know about cars is that I like the way the Z looks and lots of horsepower is good lol. The website does say that this adds 11-13hp so that might be a good idea...

That was my original idea. The reason why it's not on the top of my list is that I was reading something about instant-on radars. I'm not too familiar with them, but is that when a cop can have his radar off so you can't detect it and when he sees you he turns it on and zaps you? If so, what percentage of cops do this?

Hands down -- the Motordyne plenum spacer is the best mod for $300.

I would say go with tint if you are looking to improve appearance, go with the plenum space or popcharger if you are going for performance. However, depending on your driving habits you might want to get a radar detector before anything else.

If you're talking about POP2, it is only starting to get accepted as it is a very new technology. All depends on which county has the funds to fork out for new equipment. Don't forget about laser though, which is also instant-on but has been around for a while and thus has quite a high adoption already. If you are really interested in a detector, I would suggest signing up on the www.radardetector.net forums and asking your local members there of what detection tech they have experienced in your area. I would also recommend the "horse's mouth" a.k.a. www.valentine1.com. Mike is refreshingly honest about detection tech and setting owner expectations. Check his FAQs and laser/POP sections.

Otherwise, I would say '06 tails are a very good mod for <$300 if you prefer looks. For performance, my vote would go to the plenum spacer as well.

I say it depends on what you wanna do with it. You shoudl def think about what you want done, then put it on paper with a list and just hack away at it little by little. That way you dont lose focus and waste money on mods that you are going to replace. If performance is your goal, get a spacer, but I wouldnt worry too much about mods untill you go FI if that is what you want since once you go FI your going to have to replace things anyways, might as well do it once, instead of going NA mods THEN buying FI mods.

BUT for 300 dollars my suggustion, if you wanna make your car noticably different for cheap, is lighting mods.
https://my350z.com/forum/exterior-and-interior/232944-for-those-who-wanted-the-red-neon-inside-here-are-pics.html
i did that and it has a switch and all so i can turn em off. No wires hanging out and it cost me about 40 dollars, but looks REALLY good. I wasnt into neons but the red is perfect and not too fast and furious hehe. it adds 2 hp to....

you could also do the frnot reflector led mods or buy a kit. Or just tint your windows.

sum it up: Performance Spacer or just save it up
looks: Tint or lighting mods.

Thats laser technology, and most police departments do not use it, too expensive..
