lol cool............the video Jduet posted is my video....
yes, the top bolt can be a pain! its NOT a 12mm, however, some have been lucky with a short/small open ended 12mm wrench.
like i said, its not a 12mm wrench. its a 11.75mm hex.......yup, crazy huh...
closest you can find to get it off is a 15/32 wrench, which is rare and hard to find as well. best to find one and bend the wrench end unless its small enough to get in there.
your next best bet is to get a 11 mm wrench and take it to the bench top grinder or a dremel and try your best to open up the wrench to 11.75mm.
OR
keep trying like my video shows with a small adjustable wrench with your THUMB pressing and holding the worm gear on the adjustable wrench to keep it from backing off...
good luck..

good,
yeah, some get lucky, depends on how weak/dried up the thread locker used at the factory has become on that top ball stud and the 12mm wrench not stripping the HEX on it.
On one of my friends car it would not loosen up at all! we had to blanket cover his interior hatch area with old blankets and use a dremel with a cut off wheel and slowly cut free the hatch from the stud (WITH OUT HITTING THE BALL STUD)

Jeez so you have to cut off the old strut to install new struts.I just thought they would pop off with a smack with a dead blow hammer like other car makes but no way could I get it to come off my Z.

Round about the time they will no longer hold up the rear hatch would be a good time. even before they get to that point they will cease to open hatch by themselves. When you have to help it open, they are starting to go.
Mine came off without having to cut them...just popped off. But ones I got came with new ball mounts anyway.
