Issues with new Mastergrade CF Hatch
Anyways, it's not a knockoff - came directly from Mastergrade, who manufactures the Asuka hood.

Those look like scratches not cracks..
Any CF Scratch can be buffed out IMO.. I have buffed out huge scratches and sanded to cracks, then it has to be recleared.. Not a biggie IMO, since they prob didnt clear it very good anyways..

Isn't it odd that there would be 5, almost methodically spaced out lines under the clear? We're pretty positive that they are cracks below the clear, but without sanding down that far it's impossible to tell.
That's bs not only does someone have to think about spending the $ on expensive mods then you have to think about this is it really worth it. It seems like the chances are higher of receiving shotty cf pieces now a days
I don't see you coming out good in this.
Mastergrade is going to tell you that you or your shop should have rejected the item as damaged at the time of delivery.
95% chance that you are ignored by Mastergrade.
Best of luck.

return it... more fulfilling to know that you didnt spend a grand on a shotty product and shows MG not to dupe customers by sending them POSs..... damn and i really wanted to buy a rear diffuser from them!
Ya buddy bad call on my part, was unaware Mastergrade was the main manufacturer for Asuka, thought they just made a replica for some reason.
Im dissapointed in Asuka to learn this, though.
After getting another guy in the body shop to look at it with me he pointed out that the cracks that I thought were UNDER the clear coat were actually THROUGH the clear coat, meaning that the clear is cracked all the way down to the carbon fiber. It is not a scratch, and it is not under the clear.
So I got this message from Boomer of Mastergrade:
This sounds great, but I have a lot of apprehension just sending it back because who can tell how long it will take, and if the new one will be any better.
Here's the problem: Sure, the biggest worst cracks in the lower corner may have been damaged in shipping, but none of the other scratches could have been done in shipping. They're little scratches. There was a TON of paper/bubble wrap on this thing that it had to have happened before shipping.
I just don't know what to think... I tried to get some more pictures of the cracking and I didn't have much luck with it, but here's some more, hopefully better shots.
So I got this message from Boomer of Mastergrade:
i seen the pictures, i can't really tell how it happened. We inspect our product very well before we ship it out, we also pack it very well so it won't get damaged. We would send you used or junk parts. The ball is in your park, if your not satisfied we can reship another hatch. Ship that one back and I will refund the cost. Call me if you need help setting it up.

So Boomer says I just need to send it back and get a new one in the mail... Well how much is it going to cost ME to ship it back? A regular consumer, it will probably be $300 to ship it to California, not to mention the down time on top of the time it took to get this one...
I suggested that if he sends me a good one I'll use that box to send this one back.

"We would send you used junk or parts"....."the ball is in your park".....
lol, hope these were typos.
Get him to ship you a new one now, and youll ship/return old one. They can work this out/set this up with the shipping company so that the freight guy that drops yours off can also pick old one up and Mastergrade flips the tab.
They are in the wrong, any inconvenience or more money on your part is unacceptable.

Thanks for the advice people - this is the only group that I could turn to to help me figure this situation out.
Boomer is being a super-cool responsible vendor and offering to eat the cost of the damaged hatch and pay for shipping on everything.
Hopefully we can get this worked out this week.
I suggested doing a trade with the courier when they drop it off.

GL buddy.
Don't get me started, every Seibon "OEM" hatch I've seen has been the biggest POS ever. If fitment is even 8/10 on the Asuka/Mastergrade it's well worth the extra $350.
As for your hatch, the resin cracks can be carefully repaired by any competent composite shop. However if you can get a replacement at no cost, other than time, go for it.
