Halogen lamp with HID look!?
Is there no hope on finding a halogen lamp that produces the white-to-blue hue of a 5k plus HID setup!?
I've looked around... found a few manufactures, tested two pair of blue tinted lamps and to date still have not found my average HID look-a-like light bulbs. I’m looking for something in the 5500-8000k range. I’ve found a lot of crap on ebay and on what seems like legitimate websites out there, all to be dismissed by people saying the blue tint is crap, really... is that why Phillips created their CyrstalVision Ultra lamps or Sylvania created their BlueVision lamps. Unfortunately, I think these will only go up to 4-4.5k range. The BlueVision lamps were bright, but no whiter(cooler) than my Sylvania Ultra’s, which are packaged as 4100k. I also found a light and deep blue pair from Pilot(pepboys), claiming HID look-a-like, these lamps were not very bright and not any whiter than my Sylvania Ultra’s. Once again, I was disappointed...
At this point, you’re probably asking why doesn’t he just opt for a HID conversion kit. Well, I may... still. But thought I would try an easy swap first, since all I’m after is the color temperature. I’m trying to match my front light assembly which consists of lamps ranging from 5500-9500k. I do 85% driving on the highway and in the city here in Chicago. If I need my brights to actually see something, I still have them
My last resort seems to be ebay, as far as these blue tinted halogens are concerned. That is unless someone can point me to a halogen lamp that is proven to give off 5k plus color. This ebay guy (oemtogo) ratings and reviews, for the most part, are off the chart. Everybody’s like wow, these lights look soooooooooo good, lol! I’ve contacted a few of them and asked them a few questions, like are these lamps truly 7000k! I’m still waiting for some responses before spending my money and time on what could amount to nothing more than another failure, lol! Supposedly, these lamps (Hilite) were featured in european car!?

Also, has anyone tried the Phillips CyrstalVision lamps? CarQuest and Kmart carrry them. Are they near 5k or above!?

Thanks everyone,

had good luck with silverstars when i had my dsm,,cheaper than a proper retrofit and decent quality HID conversion, but you cant hope for HID look and output in a halogen lamp

I think the silverstars are 4k, the bluevision > 3200 (lol). The chrystalvison ultra's claim to be higher than 4k on Phillips own website!? I was hoping someone tried out either the 7k or 5.9k halogen lamps on ebay... can that many people (1000's) be wrong on their reviews!? If I found that the lamps were not 7000k I would post it!! It's only $15, but it's a waste of time getting back there for the swap...
This morning on the way in to work I saw a piece of crap cavalier from the mid 90's sporting ultra white head lamps (reflectors obviously). The guy was going in the other direction, so I couldn't ask if they were halogen and where he got them
I know a HID kit will work, I was just trying to swap my 4100's with something whiter/cooler before I butcher my stock headlamps with a HID kit.

I'm trying to color match my low lamps and illuminated side marker... sorry about the quality, I used a shoebox as a prop with my point and shoot. These are cropped only, no color enhancement.

HILITE Industries Superwhite Xe bulbs = FAIL!
LOL! And don't leave meaningless feed back to this thread as this was an experiment on my behalf to prevent others here who do research from purchasing these pieces of ****. You’re welcome BTW, I tested them on my Forenza, so it took me a matter of minutes to test them out. I even drove home with one standard lamp and one 7k lamp (JK), half lit lamp to give them a genuine shot at the task. Warm up time... you know, lol! These really are $14 lamps, with 1/2 to 1/3 the light output, hahahhahah! You get what you pay for...
So many positive reviews, $14, equals worth the gamble for me. Now I will expose the ebay seller with a nice little negative feedback for all to see. They had a few negative feedbacks, but none with insightful reasoning. I will state, " half the lumen output of standard lamps and 5000k color rendering at best". Now if I saw that, I wouldn't have purchased these. Here's the other kicker. You have to wait 7 days to leave feedback and the buyer sends you a little paper note along with the lamps. Please contact us first at our off site website, verse ebay, lol! Blah, blah give us the opportunity to make it right so you can leave honest positive feedback (oh I will, I will). Bwhahha, you wonder why there are so few negative feedbacks left! These people are making tens of thousands of dollars off these little crappy lamps and unsuspecting buyers.
And IMO, Phillips uses it's blue tinted lamps in conjunction with a higher output filament to create a whiter, as bright, lamp. My Ultra's are fairly white for halogen lamps (clear), but they do feel like they're running hotter inside my headlight, thus creating the slightly brighter output than OEM.
Alright, time to move on to an HID kit. I think I'm going with this German made kit or Phillips!?
