Default 2003-2005 Headlights vs 2006+?

In my "new owners" post a bunch of people were telling me to upgrade my head lights to the new 06+ head lights. Can someone tell me the difference between the two? I have noticed that I honestly cant see **** when driving at night with my lights. When I turn on my brights they seem like normal head lights and I drive with them on almost all the time. Is this normal for an 05 and is this why people were telling me to upgrade or is it for another reason?

I've actually been wondering the same thing, just bought my 05 about 2.5 weeks ago and i've seen a few threads about the 05 vs 06+ lights but nobody has really said why they feel the 06 are better. I assumed it was just looks.

06+ are HID's and have a different appearance both in visual aspect, and projection qualities. I personally like my 05's and have no reason to care to upgrade. Your bulbs may be shot bro, they do fade over time obv.

Well, the 06 headlights are bi-xenon and provide much better light output which can also look cool at night (not to mention safer)......LOL. However, the most dramatic change is the look of them as the 06+ headlights look fantastic appearance wise.

Appearance and performance.

My only issue with my 05 lights is the orange strip and the orange bulb. Orange bulb can be solved with an LED I hear. The orange strip can be solved with this. http://www.ricks2k.com/products/350zdiffusers.php

You will notice that the highbeam on the 05 light are a halogen. While the highbeam on the 06 is a Xenon. That's not a big deal...to me anyways.

My lights look blue. Is this how the normal 05s look or do you think they were upgraded? Can someone explain the visual appearance difference or maybe show two videos with the 05 and the 06 so we can see.

Could be bulbs, or an HID kit, you will have to pull bulbs to look@ it or post them up ayways...btw, I NEVER understood people's hatred for the orange strip, its a ****ing reflector, I dont see the problem here?

2003-2005

either came in halogen or HID main bulb, depending on trim level of the car (base models got halogen, all others HID), high beams are halogen

uses a reflector lense

outer casing is somewhat prone to cracking as they age

2006+

dont think they came in halogen as far as I recall. Dual HID (main beam and high beam), uses an actual projector lense. Gives the light a very pronounced cut off, and significantly better low and wide light output vs earlier lgihts. Much better overall light output vs earlier lights, and overall, a more modern, less aged look.

Z1 can help you with all your 06+ headlight needs. New 06+ headlight are pricey...no matter where you buy em from.

Clear reflectors/diffusers look much cleaner than orange ones IMHO. Take a look at the pic on rick's signature accessories website.

Yeah, I can see why people think/like that. I on the other hand see the reflectors as functional, and somewhat an homage to the older Z's. It does date the cars, but guess I have grown to like it more so for that reason.

Orange reflectors are in and of themselves antiquity is what I was referring to.
