Luxeon Dome Light (improved)
Hi! Hope you guys remember me posting images of my Luxeon dome light.
I've had these for a year and they're working great... but the off white color got annoying, so I decided to replace them with the latest Luxeons. The color has been improved over the months, so they're much whiter than before.
Here's what I made:

Initial install...
To the left is the old Luxeon.... to the right is, well... empty.
Just use a small flathead to pry off the plastic lens, and then
pull off the stock dome light bulb.
I broke the bulbs and re-used the metal ends for this project. My previous project consisted of ***** of tin foil. So this time around, I soldered the wires to these metal ends and used hot glue to fill up the cavity.

Both new luxeons!
Camera seem to have exaggerated the last photo, but it's really not that yellow - just slightly. It's definitely not pure white though.
Anyhow, here's the last photo with both lights installed. Screw hyper white! (seriously)

holy crap man; when you said they were yellow you werent joking!!!
yeah yeah the camera exaggerates; but it has to have something to work with.
Ive been using the 02's for the parking lights as well. only 02s, but I had 01s on my first prototype parts and I couldnt tell the difference. but thats cause they didnt look like that!

Yea I'm getting the same effect with my flashlight conversion. It looks like it came from a "cheap" batch.
The 02s are sorted to have the best color rendering. Other's are described as "sunlight" so they have a yellowish tint. It looks fine everywhere around me though... so it doesn't really yellow things out.
My eyes have a hard time adjusting from sunlight... so I'll test them out tonight to make sure I can really see at night.
But looking at them directly... the color is just awesome. Screw hyper white! AHAHAH...
I still have the old ones... I'll prob sell them for cheap or light up my computer... I haven't quite figured it out yet.

Hehe.. I'm still happy these bad boys are still working after over a year of usage.
I notice the foam is a little discolored from the heat from the resistors. That's on one of them... the other one looks fine. Only one is slightly dimmer because I accidentally gave it a 9V blast when playing with it.
Hmm.. seems like it's just us rambling about this stuff, huH?

Hehe.. that's what I was wondering.
My trunk light is overdriven since I ran out of resistors... it's still working so far.
Turn signals... that amber is bright as heck, and isn't fading at all.
Parking lights... yup, they're still bright and I haven't noticed any decay either. However, the only difference here is the external resistor design. This makes it easy for it to cool down. I'm not sure about my internal resistor design. I hope it lasts...
Here's the cluster I modded for my friend's car. It originally had indiglo + 2 cyan Luxeon. We pulled off the indiglo and replaced the cyan with blue luxeon. We didn't know what do do with the cyan, so I soldered it into the turn signal indicators. It's funny...

Feel free to ramble on, guys. I do the same thing about my projects on the S board, so much so that it's been nicknamed "MacGyver's Personal Blog". I'll post 5 or 6 times in a row without any intervening comments by someone else. I like to read that kind of stuff, and if someone can offer a hint/tip somewhere in there, all the better.

Hey! Good thing you have the S2k... have you taken out the cluster?
I notice it has an ugly incandescent bulb lighting up above. I'd like to know what the cluster looks like and whether it's easy to remove or not.
I'd really like to replace it with a white Luxeon...

Sorry, I'm waaaay ahead of you on this project
Oops, looks like the site is down, else I'd include a link to a thread I started several months back. I eventually intend to replace the bulbs with a multi-function, multi-color LED board.
