Default Weird Window Issue

Good morning everyone, yesterday I bought a 2003 350Z with 70k miles ! On my drive home the driver side window randomly rolled down, and the passenger side rolled halfway down. The driver side window will not roll up, and the passenger side will roll up and down, but not higher then halfway. It does this now every time I turn the ignition on to the battery. Now if I shut the car off and shut both doors, the windows close all the way every time. It’s the weirdest thing haha. If you guys have any knowledge on that I’d appreciate it

Welcome- this is a known issue with Z33s. The side glass is designed to roll down slightly to allow the windows to clear the top edge of the roof when opening or closing the doors. Do a search and you'll find replacing the window motors are usually the answer, but it could also be the door switch itself. Did this happen when you test drove the Z before purchase?

Yes it actually happened when I was test driving it. The car has a new driver side motor that was freshly installed. It worked just fine throughout the test drive but towards the end it failed and just went down. The passenger side is the only window that cracks when you pull on the handle, the driver side does not.

Well, since you were aware of the problems with the windows, hope you were able to negotiate a better price. You may want to check on the master switch panel to make sure it works properly. Otherwise, the DS window motor may be defective. Good luck!

Yes the car has quite a few issues, and price was very fair. I just have never seen/and/or heard of something as ridiculous. I will continue to update this thread as I progress, Incase anyone else has this issue

Every automotive product has its foibles, and for the Z33, window motors are typically known weaknesses. That's way better than powertrain issues or other $$$ issues. Did your Z come with maintenance records? Was the 60K major service done?

Unfortunately it did not come with service records. I took a look at the rear diff bushing and since it wasn’t leaking, I assumed the car has been taken pretty well care of. That and all of the other fluids look really good. I will be swapping trans fluid to hopefully “bandaid” the crippled 3rd gear, and it’s horrible grind.

little update, my friend today wasn’t paying attention and the wind took and slammed the door shut, and immediately both windows went up, and stayed up and now all of them work like normal. It’s the weirdest thing guys haha

This is all I could find on the vin about service, not much

Alright so I believe I’ve found the culprit. I believe it to be my window lock switch. I can press it and my windows will roll up for less then a second then you hear an electrical connection and the windows auto roll down. There is also not a light the illuminates from the Window lock switch, unlike every other button.

Any of this look weird to anyone?

Something's not right. When you press that switch nothing at all should happen. That button is the lock-out for the pass side window to protect children, pressing it should only bypass power to that motor.
IIRC that's a fairly expensive circuit board.
