Door sticking, to opening handily
I didn't take a lot of pictures or make any videos, but, my driver's side door started sticking. I've worked on cars for about 40 years, and I knew that a little premaintanence service was in order.
Likewise, I did cruse the net to see if there were any helpful suggestions but all I found were videos and pictures of people, Long winded people, showing how to remove the two screws that hold the handle on and then replacing it with a new handle.
Not being one to jump to conclusions, and having removed and replaced the passenger handle for painting, I decided some inspection before ordering would serve me well. I was correct. The handle it's self was moving at full travel and nothing was broken. I took a strong flashlight and peered down inside the door. I saw the blue nylon guide for the Z rod that opens the door. After cleaning it with some long stemmed Q-Tips, I decided it was serviceable. I closed the door and took the stem of a large Philips head screwdriver and pushed down on the guide and the door popped open, no resistance or slippage was noted.
The next logical conclusion was, (and I haven't seen this anywhere) but, I was trained as a Hull Technician in the Navy to repair anything, out to sea, with no parts. Our standing rule was, If it ain't broke, don't fix it. So I took the Z bend rod into the shop and put the first two angles in the vice one at a time and straightened them, just a few millimeters mind you, to give the rod more serviceable length. I reassembled the door handle lock mechanism and all, and it's been working like new ever since.
I was hoping to save a few shade tree's some funds, there ya go.
