Default Is this Vortech Rattle Normal (video)??

As some may know...I have been complaining about the rattle my Vortech has at idle. I uploaded a video. Everyone says its normal. Can you Vortech guys listen to this and tell me if this is the rattle. And is it this loud on yours?

I don't have the Vortech, but something sure doesn't sound right about that noise to me.
Can you hear it get louder under accelerationor or is the sound absent inside the cabin?

Ohh you can hear it in the cabin. It goes away above 1000rpms. It makes for fun stoplights.

Is the surface your car is on a angel. Mine doesn't rattle like that but has a wierd rattle only on my angeled driveway but goes away when the rpm's are raised. Make sure your oil return lines aren't crimped. I would get that checked.

I want to but I live nowhere near a reputable shop (and I had CP Race install it and if I didn't live 4 states away...I would drive there again in a heartbeat).

I'm thinking of going to Z Fever in Tampa. (1.5 hrs away)

But thats why I posted this...I need other people with Z/G Vortechs to tell me if this is that 'normal' rattle

And yes...it happens at every angle. Stoplights are a b!tch

I definately would get it checked. It's worth the drive to make sure the impeller blades are not overheating or rubbing.

that's the same sound mine used to make. just bump up the idle to 1000 and you will be fine.

That would seem like the solution but thatll cost me abother $450 bucks plus...when I part the car and return her to stock....she'll have an abnormally high idle.

Yeah. I have the L-Spec but idle is included in the F-Spec. They told me $300 since I already have the L-Spec...but i have to ship it there and back. Overnighting from Florida to Cali ain't cheap

That sure sounds like a Band-aid on a more serious problem IMO.

I'm hoping that Matt from CP Racing comments on this. If there is an underlying serious problem...I hope they can figure out whats wrong and fix it.

On the second video, the belt doesn't look to be turning evenly. It looks like one of the pulley's is loose. Just an observation, as I don't have a SC.

I noticed that too but that is a toothed cog belt so I dont know if it being loose affetcs it at all. That belt has about an inch of play on the bottom side. From earlier posts...this is where that "sweet" spot seems to be.

And I emailed this thread to Vortech themselves. We'll see what they have to say.

I sure hope you get it figured out and I would definitly check with CP before just raising the RPM at idle.
Not trying to step on your toes Gman, I am just making a different suggestion.

Wow. Morse Code!

I know the Vortec can clatter but thats absolutely nuts. Ask Vortec to exchange the head for you.

It sounds like the gear box has a lot of backlash. The backlash isn't overcome until the compressor has some load on it...

Even if its not a problem for reliability, it would be humiliating sitting at a stop light with that. Its time to double limo tint your windows or raise the idle or get Vortec involved.
