Though I will be looking more into the turning around the wastegate and blocking off the other opening to see how loud it really is LOL.

I know on the greddy kit they need to be slightly clocked and extended. You were kidding about the engine compartment, right.
I thought this was a car forum, lol.

Back to the question at hand. Besides MIAPLAYA is there anyone else with personal experience with open vs. closed wastegates? I would like to keep the Z as quiet as possible but if there is horsepower or longevity to be had, then open wastegates for everyone!

This is somewhat relevant, i was at an Evo dyno day at gruppe-s in bay area,ca dynoing my Z with my friend who has an Evo, anyway some guy with an STi rolled in running external wastegates, that car was sooo phucking loud everyone had to leave the garage for the sake of keeping their ears. My car is really really loud, but this thing was on a whole different level. He put down something like 375HP too, not too shabby.
Anyway, i wouldn't recommend running one of these if you live in an area where cops just love writing tickets.

oh, did i mention, I LIKE LOUD!!!!! i like to hear the motor workin. i could see it being a prob if you were not running much boost and the wastegates kicked off really soon, but come on, who doesn't want to hear the motor loud when it makes some power!!
imo- this is my opinion!!
i shall be workin on my own atmosphereic wastegates when the exhaust is built.

The dump is going to be nasty loud. I think the real benifit is doing a larger diameter 3 inch downpipe....rather than doing an open dump. The 3 inch downpipe will reduce exhuast gas backpressure, and the open dump would add to that....but it might be too loud for all but the most aggressive individuals. You can expect 20-40whp gains on the 15psi'ish cars running twins. Keeping in mind that much of the gain is coming from the upgrade to a 3 inch downpipe, vs. the stock Greddy 2.25-2.5inch downpipe.
Since you have a TN kit, I dont think there is a benifit to doing open dumps at 10psi'ish, since the TN downpipe is already 3 inch.

Haha Sharif is right, I ran open wastegate on a previous car and it was crazy loud, its funny pulling up to people dumping it into 2nd and just watching there reaction as the sound coming from the wastegate scares the crap out of them

I am running it and making ~35 more whp than other Z's with the exact same set up. I actually did it for the sound. I run the HKS Knock Amp to monitor knock so I am not worried. On a Greddy kit, it will make power. So will a 3" exhaust.
If you like your car to sound mean.... this will do it!

i heard something funny couple years back. People putting motorcycle exhausts or goped exhausts on the wastegate makes it sound like it has some sort of vvl sound cam adjustment on WOT
