Default Emanage Ult. and Relfash Question..

OK, So I decided to keep my EU for my EMS solution. Now to make this as safe/relaible as possible I have heard of reflashing the ECU to "stabilize" it from switching maps. I am looking for input on this from people who know how the tock ECU changes maps and when/why type of deal. So here is what I am thinking.

I am local to TS so thinking of dropping off my ECU while the car is being put together have them load a VERY VERY conservative turbo map for 8PSI and to copy that over all the maps, remove the speed limiter and raise rev limit to 7,100 RPMs. This way if my EU every fails for some reason it will have a safe map to " fall back on" also this way i can drive my car after the turbos are in while tunning the EU.

Any suggestions or comments greatly appreciated!!

Here is my setup:

Greddy TT
Fuel Return Kit
Walbro 255
9.0:1 Arias
Pauter Rods
Emanage Ultimate
650CC injectors
HKS SSQ BOV
JWT Oil Pan Spacer
Oil Cooler
LC-1 Wideband
Test pipes
HKS Ti Hi Power Exhaust

Thanks again everyone.

I had this done to my ECU. When I spoke with Mark at SGP he told me they do this as well. Just have them load their Greddy TT maps, but leave the stock fuel tables and have your tuner adjust fuel with the EU. Basically you just need the Greddy TT timing maps, rev limiter, speed limiter, and TB.

Sounds good except for the raised limiter. Stock rod bolts arent that strong, they can handle NA, but why take the chance with FI....

I raised my rev to 7100 when I was stock, but not to rev that high cause I was still going to shift at 6600. It just gives you a some cushion so you don't hit the rev limiter if you happen shift a little late at 6700 or 6800.

In your case its fine-you were stock and you didnt shift there. Some guys would shift there FI, I wouldnt take the chance....

I hope they don't take out the safe map. Thats the one if you get bad gas you don't go boom.

I dont plan on shifting at 7K RPM but is it still a problem even with a built bottom end? I was also doing this for the added cushion.

So I basically have them do the greddy maps but leave the fuel tables alone and safe map?

Thanks!

I don't know what they do with the safe map, but basically they are just retarding timing. I don't see how this could hurt you even with bad gas. I have yet to hear about anyone with a TS greddy TT map blow their motor (out of the box greddy with TS greddy tt map). You could also do the fuel tables, but I wouldn't recommend it. The fuel should be dialed in with the EU. When you tuner puts the car on the dyno he can watch how much timing the ECU is pulling and if at that point you need to pull more you can do so with the EU. On my car we didn't have to pull anymore timing with the EU after I had the Greddy timing maps flashed so the timing tables were set to zero.

For what its worth, I feel the notion of the ECU suddenly switching maps is pure spectulation. Having down well over 400 dyno pass on various FI 350's, running two different types of timing loggers..I have never once see the ECU suddenly advance timing to unsafe levels at WOT. Timing should always advance towards redline, so I think some people might be seeing this normal advance, and think their ECU map is switching.

The basic flash that does the rev limiter, speed limiter, and TB is $395, but when they mess with fuel or timing they charge $595. If you are having your motor built and adding cams you might as well have them raise the idle to 900-1000 rpms. No extra charge for that with the $595 package.
