Default Stock Rods?

Lately I have been seeing more and more people hit the 500whp mark on stock rods. I am getting a built motor but I was interested in this anyways. With additional work do you think that the stock rods could handle 600whp. I have been surfing some other forums about other cars and have found a number of threads where people have gotten stock rods shot peened and cryo treated and then had ARP fastners put in along with forged pistons and have been pushing their engines higher. I am not sure if the stock rods are shot peened or not but do you think that you could hit 600whp with the right tune and some extra work. Obviously it would probably be more reasonable to just go with all forged internals when it is all said and done. I have seen a fairly significant gain in hp capability on other engines and was wondering what everyone thinks.

I have a set of stock rods sitting in my garage. NO WAY would I put them in a motor for FI if it was torn apart. You can get a set of Eagles for under 600 bucks, so there is no reason to even consider stock rods

I tend to agree here. The labor costs of engine removal/teardown/reassembly/replacement are significant, and it would be a bad decision to reinstall stock modified rods. Eagle rods are $570 shipped through us...so I cant see a good reason to reuse stock rods.

well - if you're going to go through all that trouble, and you're looking for 600whp, I'd hold off for a few weeks for the results of using 1/2" head studs. You'll most likely lift your heads, and then kill your head gasket if you just use the stock or stock size ARP head studs.

i was trying to find the pictures of the rods i had that Alan (theking) bent in half and spun it around ripping holes all through the block, they are no bigger than my pinky finger, i seriously think that my old GS-R stock rods were bigger,

i would not ever even bother trying to get a lot of hp on those things...
