Default Which Pistons? 8.5:1 or 9.0:1

Ok guys im doing the short block rebuild now my only hold up is the pistons.. Im getting the Darton Sleeves and going to 100mm..

Here is my dilema(sp)

CP is coming out with pistons that are 100mm and 9.0:1 compression.. Is this good for someone that wants to achieve 700+rwhp? if not what pistons should i go with? I dont wanna limit myself. i know i wont have 700+rwhp for awhile, but just knowing that i could is good to have.

1.) Are the 100mm and 9.0:1 compression CP pistons ok for me?
2.) If not what pistons should i go with? keep in mind 100mm

oh and for those of you that dont know im running Turbonetics Single turbo
Thanks!

If my math is right, I just put 2+2 together. Kyle has an email.

The Arias Extreme Duty pistons, IMHO, is the strongest piston on the market for the 350Z...period. We recommend them for all builds above 550whp.

In terms of CR, honestly, you will be hard pressed to notice any difference between 8.5:1 and 9.0:1, both on the dyno, and via butt dyno. I have driven them all, and the VQ trq curve is to buttery, you just dont feel any decrease in off-boost response.
In terms of size, it really is your choice.

That is SUCH OVER KILL those pistons should be used in 750-800+ applications, We have Wiesco Pistons pushing high 600's easly and can handle alot more. The problem with this market is one product is ALWAYS used for everything, there are many other brands of the same caliber. And yes thats without sleeves and Fuel Return. Everything Can be done, just have to do it right.

I would go with a custom SGP piston or Wiesco if you can get a 100mm size... just has to be custom.

If it cant hurt to go with the 8.5, as Sharif says, than I would def go with the 8.5. Im pretty sure thats what other cars use that make BIG hp.

Also, what is the hp limit of the Turbonetics kit? Think about everything it takes to get to 700whp not just your pistons and rods...

100mm is in stock, but they heading to another customer that ordered them 3 weeks ago. We can make more!

We've never said anything bad about other manufacturer's pistons, and I have no doubt that Wiseco, CP, and others make a fine piston (we sell them all, BTW). We're just suggesting the parts that have be proven to work under very rigorous conditions. IMHO, there is no such thing as overkill, in regards to piston design. Rods, arguably, can be a bit overkill, becuase most forged 4340 chromoly rods are certainly suitable for 600whp+. But the piston takes the majority of the abuse, and needs to be strengthened to survive under not just ideal conditions, but sub-optimal conditions.

For instance, if one pistons was engineered for 1000whp, and another was engineered for 600whp, you might think that the 600whp piston is more than sufficient for your 550whp buildup. With a perfect tune, and ideal combustion you are correct. Now, last say you are at the drag strip, or road course, and its 100F outside, and your car is running hotter than normal. Maybe your AF ratios have changed slightly, or maybe you have a bad tank of gas. All of this "unexpected" scenarios can result in detonation. In this case, the stronger piston has a much better chance of surviving this type of abuse.

Given that most people are spending between $5000-$10000 in labor in parts to build up their engines, the price difference between a standard duty piston and an extreme duty piston is immaterial, in the grand scheme of your budget.

I understand where you are coming from, but like I said over kill, they can save that money and put it towards somthing else. Because there is no such car that is 700-800+ street car its just not possible.. theres no way that much power will hook on the street. And Those pistons are used for EXTREME loads like that power range. All it comes to is saving money!!

True, but 700whp is perfectly streetable, from 100mph onward. And sooo much fun too.
