I pulled my engine to install my turbo kit and after getting the manifolds and turbos off and putting the engine back into the engine bay my friends and i are having a hard time getting the engine to link up back into the tranny. It seems like the gap of about 3/4" doesnt want to go away no matter how much we adjust the angle or wiggle it around.
Suggestions are appreciated!
Thanks,
Alex

I think im going to just keep shaking it until it snaps back in
I also talked to Sharif and he said if i can connect the drive shaft then i can put the car into gear and spin it until its back in place. Then use the tranny bolts to line everything up correctly and it should snap back in.
If and only if you know the splines on the shaft are lined up, you can start the bolts into the motor/tranny and use an impact to screw them in and "push" the two together.
please reread the part in bold print.

i just swapped my tranny today, took about 1hr 15 minutes to get the tranny off (yes, i timed it), and about 2 1/2 hrs to get it completely back on, ready to drive...
are u doing this on a lift? or on jack stands? just like Sharif had suggested, you need to line up the splines and the tranny will slip on, make sure nothing is falling between the tranny and motor where you can't see, this would definately inhibit the tranny from completely mating up
move the tranny clockwise and counterclockwise about 15-20 degrees in each direction while applying pressure towards the motor, while lifting the tail end of the tranny up so the tranny is parallel to the car, it should slip right in...
when i put mine on today, it was on a lift, two of us lifted the tranny up, went right on in a matter of 10 seconds
good luck

Marshall, the tranny, rarly "slips" neatly back into place...especially if you are doing this in your garage, without a good tranny jack.
By using the driveshaft insertion technique I mentioned, you will be certain that the splines are properly engaged. And as Tig mentioned, once this has occured, then start drawing the tranny in with your bolts. It will work...I promise.

If u took the clutch assy off or there was disc shift --that will give u trouble ----Chk ur clutch alignment ---Make sure ur splines are smooth and not dinged from the removal, I use a tiny amount of hi temp moly grease on the nose and spline---If u do that, It HAS to go ----be patient.
And I'll get rapped for this but --If u know everything is perfect and the splines are started and the motor and the tranny are 100% square to each other ----VERY VERY VERY VERY carefully start 2 bolts and VERY carefully pull the two together. There should be NO undo force used----Just a little coaxing

its 7:40am, i left the garage at about 7am lol. I think i went out there at about 4-5pm and basically the only time i left the garage was to eat dinner and to go to the bathroom once. The engine is officially back in and the technique we had to use was line up the bolts and start tightening all over the bellhousing until things were even. It never slipped in, we just kept tightening and eventually the gap closed and it lined up perfectly.
Almost everything is mounted including relocating my power steering cooler to a little mount on the driver side. I removed my washer fluid (it seemed necessary to fit the intercooler piping). Tomorrow i just need to reconnect everything, retighten everything, get all the Intake and IC piping on, and connect my oil pan.
PS, ill talk about this in a nother thread but i got my JWT popcharger to fit EASILY in the drivers side intake section and it mated to the PE intake pipe with the same bolts and everything.
