Default Project SAA2 Turbonetics Update

The last I heard from Sharif is that the car will be started tomorrow with the new built motor. If all goes well it will be broken in this week and tuned Friday or so.

So many problems...

I broke my wiring harness clips when I dropped the wiring harness on the floor. So I had to order a new wiring harness. The dealership sent the wrong harness and I had to wait again for them to send the right one.

I took my cams and lifters off my heads and knocked the lifter and cam caps off the bench and lost the order they were to be replaced in. I had to send the heads out to have the stuff reinstalled.

The used cranckshaft and upper oil pan I purchased wer unusable and I had to buy another shaft and pan.

Well the end is in sight (I Hope that's the light at the end of the tunnel and not a speeding freight train!)

Results of pushing the extreme limit of the Turbonetics stage 1 tuner kit comming Friday.... hopefully!

I honestly think with the right setup and right cams and good exhaust we can see 475-500whp out of the 60-1. At least that's what I'll try to do

I think you shoudl be able to get 475 on the stage 1 setup then add the cams and you shoudl be at the 500 whp mark.. and Intercooler sprayer and you can get 525-530 whcih is right in the capabilities of a "stage1" short block upgrade

am i off on this ?

do you think you'll be able to extend the usuable rpm band back into the 6000+ range? what did you and Sharif come up with to relieve the exhaust backpressure?

I have an idea using dual wastegates (and relocated, too) that should be able to relive most of the exhaust backpressure in the upper rpms. of course, I haven't had a chance to implement or try it though.

id be interesting to see.. but i think he is jsut looking to push the TN stage1 kit as it is to its limits... THen he will probably do stage2 upgrade once its released(2 months). That is my personal plan

About the 6000+ rpm range... i would want someone with more opinions here but i think the stock rpm range shoudl be keep unless you upgrade springs on a fully built long block....

My car has the "revup" engine which used to like to pull up to its 7200 rpm redline, but now with the TN kit, I find myself shifting at 5500 because the engine just sounds like an asthmatic over 5500!

yah.. overreving is one of the biggest engine killers as far as i know on Fi setups. So you should leave it at stock, or maybe even lower it by 100rpms for safety

No one yet has made over 426whp with the kit and retained the stock powerband. D350Z10 made 426whp and seemed to retain the stock powerband up to 5900rpm but he had to get off the gas there because his injectors were maxed. The powerband was looking good. He never pushed it past 5900 because he put in a built motor and chanegd his turbo to a T66.

So no one knows how much power the car will make before peak power occurs at lower rpms. So the name of the game here is to see how much peak power can be made and still retain the stock power band which peaks at 6250 or so RPM.

He did have Crawford headers and I think a TIAL wastegate. I have Alphaerks headers and a Turbosmart 48mm wastegate custom mounted. I am hoping for 450whp with peak power @ 6250rpm.

Hey jet its me chris, lol the other guy in your same shoes. I am just wondering are you using the overboost pipe the the newer turbonetics kits came with??? I called turbonetics to get one, b/c im not sure if its a good idea to start pusshing the turbo to its limits with the old kit, and have it spike. Are you using the overboost pipe or no?

PS: You asked if I was using stock cams on my build and stock headers. Yes I am using both stock, reason being Im trying to push the stage one to its limit so people know what it can do. When stage 2 comes out, I will order turbo cams and the alpha work headers and go for a little more then 560 whp. Oh yea and Im also running the kits stock wastegate, but to the atmosphere. NOT recirculating back into the exhaust.

*UPDATE* The update is Sharif hates my car. But deservedly so. It's got a curse on it put on by my X.

After numerous small problems the car was started tonight for the first time in 4 months with the built motor and is running with no CEL codes.

Break in and tuning to commence ASAP.

Chris..... no I am not using the overboost pipe. I have a custom solution to the overboost issue. I have mounted a 48mm Turbosmart Progate wastegate in a new location which dumps to the atmosphere. I'm sorry I mis-read and thought you were using aftermarket cams and headers.

450whp here we come!

What's the story with Sharif's dyno? Is it accurate to SAE horespower readings as an OE accurate number? Has a stock Z been dyno's as an accuracy baseline?
