The sheer numbers of TN kits out there, i've not heard of any problems such as Jet is having.......which should tell you a lot right there........so looking at the sheer numbers of TN ST kits on the road and this single problem shouldn't change anyones mind........it's not like it's the only kit that could have problems, lol.
I don't like 10w40. I ran some a while back and REALLY hated how the car ran on it. I won't use any thicker than 10w30....and prefer 5w30 in cooler weather like we're having.
I would check the inlet filter screen/restrictor, and I would also check your return line for clogs. If oil gets backed up in the turbo, it will blow the seals....doesn't matter how new the turbo is.
I just think it's strange you've had all these problems with smoke and oil right from the start.

I'm on my second turbo. Same issue, the original turbo seal leaked and I got smoke (and the burning smell) after decel and occassionally at idle. It got worse over time and happened more frequently when the car decel'ed and stopped on a slight downhill. TN did cover my replacement but would not send it until the first one was returned which resulted in an extended down time.
Makes you wonder why the seals would go so frequently.

Wow-I dont agree with the 90 day warranty on the rebuilt turbo part. JET-go with twins and put that built block to use, good luck with everything, this is one of the few times Ive felt like TN hasnt/isnt handling something well.
FWIW-I had a friend with 4000 miles on his kit who had a smoking turbo-same issue, really bad at decel, he ended up taking off the kit...

All,
the Turbonetics warranty is as stated 1 year or 12k miles from date of purchase. Jetpilot I spoke with Ed and he was under the impression the kit was over a year old. You should be all set now. Sorry for the mix up.

I think "Ed" should call you as soon as possible and explain that he made a mistake and that Turbonetics has changed their warrantee to cover all problems in the first year.

If the turbo is over the warranty period we offer a 90 day reman warranty on any parts. Jet if you can provide a proof of purchase then we will help you with that and hopefully the problem will be solved. I was under the impression that your kit was NOT under the warranty period. It seems we were not under the same page and I as a member here and a fellow Zer I do what ever I can to help but I however can't cut corners and do as not instructed. So like I said we seemed to miss each other on this point. I am in the process of talking to Rob and see if we can somehow get a replacement without you sending in that unit but I have to check with Reggie on this. Whatever the outcome may be we will not turn our backs on you and that is what sets us apart from the rest.
Also just so you guys know the GT-K line of turbos is a whole new turbo NOT a upgrade from a existing turbo. I know we dont have alot of info on theses turbos just yet but that is the info I have been given here at Turbonetics......

Thanks Ed....
I have a built motor now, and I need a GTK. I have surpased the limits of the T4 60:1. I will send the turbo in for the warranty rebuild. I guess I will sell it when it comes back. I will need a price on the GTK which will be going on the car. I thought I heard discussion that there will be an exchange available for the T4 60:1 to the GTK. So I guess the official word is no exchange? Please don't tell me the GTK is not available yet!!!! I really really need this to be over.
Swapping the turbo out for the 3rd time: Labor $300
New GTK Turbo: $
Retune: $450
Gas for trip to Sharif with 1 night hotel $ $300
Therapist for 2 additional sessions: $500
Shopping money for the wife to keep her happy $1000
I'm crying a little![](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/icon22.gif)

Well, looking at this from a logical standpoint, there is a reason why everything happens. I don't see how seals would just "happen" to fail 3x on the same car just by chance. There has to be a logical reason for it.
My first guess was the tapped oil pan. My next guesses would be the oil used or an issue with the install. Perhaps using high viscosity oil with the tapped pan is enough to do the seals in. I know that traditionally, turbo owners have suggested using dino oil for the first xxxx miles or so, then switching to synthetic. Another thing - what brand of oil are you using?
Martin over at XAT Racing here in Tampa (that has A LOT of experience with turbocharged cars, mostly nissans) recommended that I stay away from Amsoil and he recommended Mobil 1. He stated that he's had more blown seals with Amsoil and has never had an issue with Mobil 1 full syntetic. I'm not sure, but I trust his recommendation more than anyone on these forums.
I know that far more people have perfecly functioning turbos than are having these issues. It would believe me to believe there may be a common factor that is the root of the issue. We just need to find out what that is...
