turbos without intakes
So im at a pretty big show in NJ, and i see a couple crazy turbocharged cars and im looking under the hood and see the giant turbo with no intake on it and just an exposed turbo??? Can someone realistically tell me the difference because this guy made it sound like it made a giant difference on his dyno lol. maybe it felt like it to him because the turbo spooled louder??? haha
thanks guys, Ryan

doesnt really offer more gains, just for looks, that is if you have a pretty good air filter that flows good, but i prefer to have something covering my compressor wheel, they dont like it when things are sucked in there. ive seen an air filter sucked into a turbo, as well as a t-shirt, that was funny as hell. sitting there with the car cranked with no filter, the owner leaned over the motor to grab something, and woosh, his shirt got sucked into the turbo. plus you cant do it if youre running a MAF sensor, you gotta be running a MAP sensor to do that.
I bet if you did some dyno pulls with the greddy tt kit on a 350z without the filters and piping you would show some gain or build boost faster. The piping is cut way down from compressor inlet size.
yeah he had no filter or anything, just rolld up on the dyno and all i could remember was the turbo spool sound screaming!! it sounded amazing, but i would worry what else he may suck in the future... he said drives around like that all the time and has no issues

or better...remove teh filters and replace it with dual turbonators!!

forgot it used a blow thru vs a pull thru MAF.

The only time I've seen people really run without filter effectively is on race car only setups. Although I have to admit I have always wanted to add an ASME inlet with a mesh screen and mold the inlet into the front bumper. I think its a little to aggressive for the street though and I'm guranteed to get pulled over if I do it. Here's what I mean.

I like IIQuickSilverII's idea though. Dual Turbonators FTW, then you'll have twin turbonators.
