Turbo update.....Mine is trashed after all. I need 1k to rebuild with upgrades....So I am going with the 60-1 from STS. Hope to have her back on the road soon. Damn, this was an expensive journey....I won't give up my track time but beware to the shallow pocket bunch, it can get nasty.

I am getting the car back today....turbo drama has been unfolding.....I eventually went with a rebuild of the original although it's really a new turbo. I will have a new Garrett housing, and wheel that will run "15 psi all day without a problem" and will not loose any spool up speed. Grand total on this journey with built long block from GTM $8500, CD009 tranny $1800, oil cooler and Koyo radiator $800, new/rebuilt turbo $1000 and labor is $14,600....OUCH. My only comfort is that I will have a rippin bad *** car that is mechanically new from top to bottom. Gotta love racing.

14g and still running a STS setup? +1 for overkill. A turbonetics can run 15psi all day. Which turbo did you get? actual wheel sizes etc?

$2500 labor for that entire swap isnt so bad though.

TEC rebuilt the turbo with a 60-1 trim.....it will now run 15 psi "all day" according to them. Overkill yes for the STS but my $$$ went for a built GTM motor...new cd009 tranny, oil cooler, new radiator.....and this goes on. I should be set for life now.

I think the 60-1 should be good for 15psi or maybe push it up to 17psi. The lower compression piston is going to hurt the power so I'm guessing 440whp - 470whp
(depend on the dyno) at 15psi. if you are only going to run 15psi then 9:0 piston should be more than enough or even a little higher than that.

Any STS kit owners near San Diego CA?? I am researching getting the sts rear mount kit instead of the vortech after reading way too many pages in this thread......... Anyways might not happen for awhile since i havent sold the greddy kit yet.

Has anyone looked into coating the long intake pipes of this kit with "something" to improve performance?

All the intake pipes are already HPC-coated.

I might have missed something but the op posted about how loud the kit is in the cabin when not at WOT. Has anyone found a solution to this? Or is it really not that loud....

You can probably search this thread (good luck, haha), but goosegoose and I have a Magnaflow resonator that replaces the stock resonator. The sound with the stock midpipe is really quite loud, and it drones pretty bad around 2k rpm. The Magnaflow helped, but it's by no means a quiet car.

It's been a long time since I've been on here, so maybe someone has come up with something different.

I can verify Jonny's input. Replacing teh small OEM Calsonic resonator in the OEM midpipe with a larger Magnaflow unit helps, but does not eliminate the sound at 2K RPM under WOT.

I currently have the Motordyne XYZ pipe with HFC option, and an additional resonator spliced into the STS end pipe after the WG split before the turbo. All this helps, but still does not completely eliminate the drone.

Man thats too bad, the greddy kit is only loud if you make it loud by changing exhausts. Mine was actually super quiet until i went WOT using the APS true dual exhaust.

Traveling at freeway speeds would get pretty annoying then correct? Or since thats around 3k would it be fine?

Hey JonnyC. Chris recently posted a clip on youtube for his YellowZ w/ STS setup

<object width="480" height="295"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/JVNb_CI_CoQ&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0xe1600f&color2=0xfebd01&hd=1" ></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/JVNb_CI_CoQ&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0xe1600f&color2=0xfebd01&hd=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="295"></embed></object>

This should help some of the folks trying to figure out the sound level somewhat

I personally love the sound of my car...but it's not my daily, just a toy. I got a chance to do some engine break-in up in the canyon yesterday......the sound was soooooo sweet bouncing off the canyon walls.
The new TEC turbo spools very quick over the orginal STS. I haven't notice any real changes in the low end with a drop in compression on the built motor. Next month I head back to the track (Thunderhill) and I hope to turn up the wick with a moderate 10-12 psi and let this baby out. I will post up-dates.

Those vids sound great . I was browsing the site, and does anyone know if this kit will become smog legal since it doesnt affect emissions equipment and they show many awards on the site for improved gas mileage and better emissions "green" awards lol.

I guess i could just pick up the phone and call them hahaha

I didnt see any mention of this feature:

What happens if something goes wrong with the oil pump?
In the event of an oil pump failure, the system is equipped with an alarm which will sound inside the vehicle to warn you that you are experiencing an oil system problem so that you can prevent any damage to the turbo or engine. This alarm is designed to warn you of any problems with the oil pump well before a complete shutdown of the pump.

Seems like a good idea.

Feel free to call STS. I wouldn't put any money on smog certification any time soon though.
