Bare Minimum for TT
In your opinions...what do you think is the bare minimum that should be done to the VQ35 engine to prep it for a twin turbo kit. Is it completely necessary to fully upgrade the block and everything internal. Or is there a minimum that could make things much safer on the engine.
I understand that many threads have been started stating, stock block with twin turbo kit and run FINE. And in some cases i can see this being possible...but for what i want, i want to make sure my engine is fully prepared to take on the stress and strain that a twin turbo kit will put on it. because the last thing i want is for my engine to be toast and the money that i just spent on a TT kit be wasted.
So, what do you guys think is not necessarily the minimum, but a good set up for an engine to be able to handle a TT?

Low boost/safe tune and you'll be good to go. IMHO 375-400whp range is fairly safe pending the car was tuned right. Once you go past 400whp+.... then it gets riskier. Plenty of ppl don't have issues, but the probablility of something going kaboom gets higher. If you're thinking about a TT kit, you have a few great tuners in chicago. GRD (APS) and Sound Performance (Custom SP kit). You can do either kit and then upgrade your internals down the road when you are ready for more boost.

I would say 1st off How many miles is on the engine and how well was it treated. Boosted or not that will play a big role in the longevity of the motor. Also are you able to perform simple maintains or is you pockets deep enough to?
As for the motor at some point and time it will go. That’s just what you get with boost.. I would say stock motor is fine with a great tune for a long time. around400 + or - but anything can happen with a built motor or stock. I would do pistons rods HKS head gasket studs, and call it a day drive the sucker on 400 daily 450-500 high boost.

OP-also never stated budget, power goals, what hes doing with the car-the question is wayyyy to vague for a serious response, everybody can only guess what he wants to do with the car...

Keep the boost low, and you will have a very safe 350whp stock block setup that will last a very long time. https://my350z.com/forum/engine/270261-greddy-tt-stage-packages-you-asked-here-it-is.html

475-500whp is PUSHING a stock block, and to be honest I wouldnt do it on a stock block and expect it to last. $20K I think is possible, but you may need to pick up a few used pieces to help you, things like used exhaust, no over the top fancy guages, using your engine management to control boost (Im thinking UTEC w/boost solenoid-thats $90 option as opposed to $500+ for nice EBC) instead of buying an EBC can help save you $$$. For that goal Id do a TT kit-you decide whats best for you-so we dont turn this into a debate, but for that goal JWT 700bb, Greddy or APS will easily get you there.
Id do a basic shortblock, pistons of your choice, L19 head studs, HKS headgasket, Eagle rods. Thats a great set-up for 600whp easy-sleeves arent necessary for you. Clutch you could do an RPS, again you can save $$$ here instead of spending $2000+ on a Carbonetics double/triple disk. Although if you will be pushing it/dragging a lot do a NICE clutch now, it wil lbe cheaper in the end. Now do a fuel system,a decent engine management-this can be $1100 or so for a UTEC or roughly $3000 for an FCON. Discuss with your tuner what you'd like to do here. For that goal, stock cams, no port work is needed. Ive seen up to about 550whp with stock cams, but to make more power and make more power per psi, a simple set of JWT cams and valvetrain-again no port and polish will be a nice help. Add all of this up, and of course additional mods like exhaust/downpipes/plenum/spacer etc all add up, and after labor and tuning you'll be $20K in the hole enjoying the power.
Sorry for the long rant, good luck.

GRD has a perfect setup for you then. Give them a call and inquire about their stage I build.
