I've been to lazy to check to be honest.

Basically put RTV around the tube seals on the inside of valve cover. I honestly can't see how it wouldn't work. Basically oil seeps through the seals and eventually get to a high enough level to where it overflows.

not sure I would want to risk using RTV in the event it loosens and gets in the oil system then you will have bigger issues than leaky valve covers

I know of the risk but given that some people have done this before I figured I'd give it a shot.

So far so good its holding up.

Well I guess I'll be doing a DIY vid where I will use black RTV (for internal engine components) to simulate a new gasket instead of shelling out $$$ for new valve covers... although it's worth checking that one site I saw someone mention earlier where they saved $100... I'll have to talk to my friend and see how he wants to do it.

I could have gotten valve covers at cost but my thought is... it seems to be a common problem and why would I spend a few hundred bucks for it to probably come back again.

Although I could run into a load of problems if the RTV didn't hold up

My buddy works at Nissan and said he's never had a problem with there RTV breaking down so I went by his word.

to tell you the truth im goin to use rtv because the seal it self is at the bottom of the shaft that it seals or is suppose to seal but where the spark plug shaft and cover meet is where im goin to rtv that should seal it better plus then it the rtv did losen up it wouldnt make it to the engine becasue it wouldnt make it back past the seal i know that sounds complicated but im sitting here looking at my valve cover and im for sure it will work i will do it and take some pictures

Yeah... you really don't need much RTV for it. The gaps are really small but oil seems to find a way to seep through.

Edit: My passenger side has no leak issue, i might sell it after i replace them. ( depends on condition)

took the covers off today applied the rtv and put the covers back on it will be till next week till i can start it and find out becuse i am doing some other stuff and hte car will not run

Did the RTV fix your problems? I just found oil on my plugs.

I have the same issue. plugs 3 and 6 were drenched in oil when i took them out? This just seems like poor engineering or something? does this happen in many other cars?

replaced my valve cover and gasket about 5k miles ago. plugs are oil free now.

Could this cause oil to show up on the turbine of vortech charger? Could they even make it up that far?

I just replaced my spark plugs and found oil in cylinders 3 and 6 like many other people here. My car is a 2003 with 98K miles on it. No telling how long oil has been in these spark plug holes.
I'm wondering if this is really an issue or if I need to fix the leaky valve covers. The oil isn't seeping into the cylinders and the spark plug coil seems to be potted so I'm not sure what problems oil could cause.

Has anyone witnessed performance issues with oil gathering above the spark plug?

same deal here. would this cause the engine to lose pressure? other than that i dont think im to worried about this...

I am also curious to see how well the RTV holds up. I have 60k, and have not changed my plugs, but I am anticipating this will eventually be something I have to deal with. I tried doing some research to see if RTV will hold up to oil, and I didnt find anything that said it would not. I did find this RTV
